When starting to dissect ECGs it all seems a blur. “How is that benign squiggle any different from that pathological one?!” was the constant thought running through my head when I began reading this book. However, this book takes a very systematic approach to teaching you how to look at every aspect of an ECG that will definitely help you in the future. I read this book over the course of about a week and by the end of it, I felt very confident in my ability to take apart an ECG. It starts very slowly, focusing on anatomy and physiology. If you are like a typical medical student, you will probably be bored with the introduction and want to skip to the meat of the matter. However, if you patiently work through each section, read each explanation, and analyze each strip, you will be proficient in your analysis by the end. It takes a while, you must know that going in, but it is well worth it.

The only negative comment I have is that, although it teaches you to be systematic, looking at only one aspect at a time, it does not give a specific step-by-step, A before B before C, plan for looking at ECGs. Even though the book is presented in a specific order, the explanations often exclude information from earlier chapters. I would greatly prefer if there were a set formula that they followed and each explanation addressed each component of that formula rather than just skipping to the pathology being highlighted in that chapter.
