Description

Dermatology for Advanced Practice Clinicians offers a practical approach to the care of common dermatosis. It comprehensively covers the basic science of lesion morphology and key diagnostic skills for exams. Chapters on common skin diseases walk you through everything you need to know, from the basic pathophysiology of the disease to epidemiology, common clinical presentations, diagnostics, differential diagnoses, management, complications, follow up, patient education, the need for referral or consultations, resources, and ICD-10 codes. A Special Considerations section addresses the unique needs of specific patient populations, such as pediatrics, geriatrics, and pregnancy.

User’s Reviews

This book is a must-have for Advanced Practice Clinicians (and physicians, too!). If you are familiar with the gold-standard Fitzpatrick textbook, let me tell you that this is even better. There are very helpful charts, algorhythms, tables, and of course photos. The photos … be forewarned: they are better than Fitzpatrick in their detail and resolution so do not eat before looking at them! I used the book this weekend at work while assessing an odd skin condition and the patient, mother and I all got queezy! I sent out a mass email to my colleagues recommending this book and several immediately bought it.

I teach dermatology courses at three universities and provide educational opportunities in the clinical setting for medical, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant students. I highly recommend this as required reading for several reasons. The book is a well organized resource for novice to expert clinicians. The primary and contributing authors are respected clinicians and national educators who share their expertise related to dermatologic disease. Each chapter contains numerous colorful pictures, followed by evidenced based algorithms, pharmacologic management pearls, as well as fun facts! I found the inclusion of the current ICD-10 billing codes provided in each chapter to be a helpful and unique feature that sets this apart from other dermatology textbooks. The book is succinct and concludes with an internet resource section that makes it valuable for anyone who advocates for disease prevention and early detection of cutaneous conditions.
