User’s Reviews

For the serious hematopathology learner with limited time (i.e. just about everyone reading this review), this book is a nonpareil resource to have at all training levels. Whether you are a hematology fellow looking for a concise review, a pathology resident sitting at the microscope, or a medical student preparing for the hematology course in medical school (or studying for the USMLE or wanting to be a rock star on the wards), this book provides high yield information in a succinct, organized, and easy-to-understand format without compromising depth or breadth of subject matter. Importantly, the necessary hematology and immunology basics are presented in a sequential manner prior to delving into the details of hematopathology, thereby allowing the reader to develop and build upon a solid foundation of learning without having to consult additional resources. In my humble opinion, this approach promotes understanding and long-term retention of information, mitigating the need for rote memorization. I highly recommend this book.

This is an excellent resource to have for anyone looking to learn or review the basics of hematology. As a pathology resident, this book gives me an overview of both the clinical and anatomic side of both benign and malignant hematology and hematopathology. It has very practical pointers and its size makes it a much more useful book to use at the microscope compared with some of the other more daunting textbooks available. Any medical student studying for USMLE step 1 would benefit from reading this book. In addition, any medicine resident or heme fellow with little time to read can easily draw out the main points of this text with the highlighted points and clear pictures. Most importantly for me, any pathology resident would be well served by reading through this book to prepare for boards. Overall, I highly recommend this text.
