Description

This book is a one-stop guide to managing acute orthopedic injuries. Unlike other handbooks, this reference provides a comprehensive, yet concise, set of diagnostic and management tools to help readers deliver optimal, evidence-based, and efficient patient care. Additional focus on physical exam techniques, emergency room orthopedic procedures, and on-field athletic management strategies empowers readers with real tips and tricks used by orthopedic surgeons at top-tier institutions. This guide is a must have for emergency medicine providers, orthopedic surgeons, and other clinicians, trainees, and students caring for adult or pediatric patients in the emergency setting.

Dr. Melvin Makhni is a chief resident in orthopedic surgery at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY and will be doing his fellowship training in spine surgery at the Columbia University Spine Hospital. After completing his undergraduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he received his combined MD/MBA from Harvard Medical School and Harvard Business School in Boston, MA. Dr. Makhni has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, chapters, and national presentations. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). User’s Reviews

“This is a very unique reference that will be a valued companion for primary care physicians who care for patients with musculoskeletal injuries, emergency room physicians, residents in training, and even orthopedic subspecialists who are taking general trauma call and want to double check that they are doing the right thing. It is a worthy addition to the literature and would be a great book to have in the emergency room, athletic training room, or urgent care center.” (Mark R. Hutchinson, Doody’s Book Reviews, April, 2017)
