Description

Organized by chief complaint, this comprehensive, pocket-sized handbook for medical students and residents covers the diagnosis and management of more than 80 common problems found in children, focusing on symptoms, differential diagnosis, laboratory assessment, and various treatment options for each problem. Students and residents note that the major strengths of this book are its readability and ease of use. It contains the perfect amount of detail and emphasizes high-yield topics that appear on end-of-rotation and in-service exams and really helps direct one’s thinking process.

User’s Reviews

NMS Series are great. The Microbiology book is very good. It may help you through a test.

This book is a great handbook for students and interns. The chapters are organized by symptoms. Each chapter walks you through the differential and does a great job explaining the mechanisms that lead to the symptom. Each chapter then describes the workup of each symptom. Therefore, it is perfect for any situation where you are working up a patient from scratch, for example a new outpatient or ED visit. However, detailed management of specific diseases is weak, and I use The Harriet Lane Handbook: Mobile Medicine Series, Expert Consult: Online and Print for that.
