Description

Written by an acknowledged master in the field, this succinct, focused, clinically oriented textbook presents the core knowledge base in musculoskeletal imaging necessary for radiology residents and practitioners. Major sections focus on trauma, tumors and tumor-like lesions, joint disease, and miscellaneous topics such as developmental and congenital conditions, metabolic, endocrine, and nutritional conditions, infection and marrow disease, postsurgical imaging, and interventional procedures. Emphasis is on understanding how abnormalities on images mirror the specific anatomic and pathophysiologic features of diseases.

This Third Edition includes all modalities in current use, including plain film, ultrasound, PET-CT, and much more MRI than previous editions. The book includes over 900 images selected from the teaching files and clinical case material at leading medical centers.

User’s Reviews

I am a radiologist and this book was excellent for review of interoperative fixation of fractures etc.particularly as this is not covered in other othopedic radiology texts .As this book will certainly be used by trainees or practioners in fields other than radiology or orthopedics ,the author should have included labeled plain films of areas with complex anatomy such as the wrist in multiple positions etc ,rather than just referring to DISI VISI injuries etc.I would have liked more coverage of joint replacements of all types and complications thereof. My other criticism is that the print is quite small for a textbook.Because I am highly myopic I asked my 20 year old son with excellent vision his opinion and he concurred.Overall this is a very useful book for any praciticing radiologist who must interpret orthopedic plain films,

This looks like an excellent book for studying the skeletal system and common dysfunctions. It is recommended reading for prosthetic orthotic students at EMU, and it is a bit surprising to me. I think it is written for radiologists or orthopedic surgeons. but i am reading it anyway. (Follow up 12-29-13) This was definitely an excellent book even for O&P, contains the best films of normal and pathological skeletal/joint anatomy in CT, MRI, Xray I have ever seen. This book is definitely for med school students; It is advanced and assumes the reader knows a great deal about medicine, and if you don’t you will have trouble. I had to buy a medical dictionary app on my I pad to go along with reading this and Im not new to studying skeletons. I am keeping this book for future reference because there is an enormous amount of information, which is guaranteed to slip my memory. The best part is the book describes both verbally and VISUALLY and so well organized. I would summarize this book as a radiologists perspective on skeletal structure, function, pathologies starting with bone, and connective tissue structure, development, disease, loading and deformation, THere is a great deal of musculoskeletal pathology discussed including joint injuries, surgeries, several arthritic conditions, cancer osteosarcomas lymphomas etc, THe pictures help and a med dictionary compliments also, but this is one of my favorites, obviously.
