I have had the pleasure of knowing the author of this book. Dr Ajit Damle was my first mentor in orthopedic surgery. He has a vast amount of experience and is very passionate about orthopedics – particularly trauma. He has been a fantastic dedicated teacher and a very compassionate and ethical surgeon to all his patients. The book encompasses his valuable contribution and experience in handling of common and some not so common orthopedic cases – would be particularly useful for beginners and surgeons in practice – to learn valuable tips, tricks and pearls in dealing with these cases in difficult situations – specially where conditions in the operating room may not be ideal or uptodate as per current standards. The book deals with his personal journey in orthopedics – and gives the reader a valuable insight into the management of orthopedic trauma cases from the late 70s…..

This book is a work of love that the author has written. In it he has added various relevant photographs as well as radiological pictures collected over his lengthy career as an orthopaedic surgeon. As the name implies, he has added practical recommendations as “Tips” that helped him overcome obstacles during surgery over his career. Rather than reinvent the wheel, the reader benefits from Dr.Damle’s experience by reading this textbook.
The photographs as well as radiological pictures truly give meaning to the adage “One picture makes for 1000 words”. It obviates the need for lengthy discourses. He has abbreviated the various procedures and where appropriate, added his “Tricks” to make it readable and memorable where one can skilfully put it into practice.
This book is a valuable source of reference for the family practitioner. There is even a lucid chapter in the Upper Extremity Section on “Emergency Room Techniques” for Injuries presenting in the Emergency Room. The author has truly learned his art by listening to his mentors as well as his students and his patients.
