Organized by subspecialty, this case-based review covers all the information students are expected to learn during their internal medicine clerkship. Each topic begins with a brief patient history and a question about the most likely diagnosis or next step in management followed by a discussion of alternative diagnoses and management strategies. The user-friendly approach includes numerous algorithms, images, mnemonics, and tables.
1. This book *badly* needs an errata. For instance, it lists a decrease in the effect arterial blood volume as a cause for hyperkalemia, when in reality this would ramp up RAAS, resulting in increased excretion of K+ by the kidney. I’ve encountered numerous mistakes, which makes me question what mistakes I’ve accepted as fact and whether I can trust the text at face value.
2. This book uses so many mnemonics, so many mnemonics that you’ll find at least one on every other page. Unfortunately, most are poorly thought-out, feel forced, and are not memorable. They are so frequent that they become a useless distraction.
