Description

Netter’s Orthopaedic Clinical Examination: An Evidence-Based Approach, by Joshua Cleland and Shane Koppenhaver, helps you apply best practices to get the most clinically significant information from each physical examination. Classic Netter artwork and anatomy/biomechanics tables provide a handy anatomy and pathophysiology overview, while an evidence-based approach helps you focus on the examination techniques, tests, and measures that have been proven to yield the most meaningful diagnostic findings.

User’s Reviews

“The only text available that combines clear yet concise descriptions of orthopedic test performance and scoring with data on the psychometric properties of these tests and measures…This book is well written and well organized and the tables, figures, and photographs greatly enhance the text and make the information quickly accessible to the reader…The most logical choice for a required text for a musculoskeletal evaluation course. It also will undoubtedly serve as a much-used, clinically useful reference text for every student, educator, and clinician involved in musculoskeletal care.” – Physical Therapy, review of the first edition

The first edition of this text, in my opinion, set the standard for orthopaedic examination texts. I didn’t think the second edition would be better, but it is. All the content has had considerable and valuable updates, incorporating the most recent research (up to 2010). The content is also organized better and it’s easier to find specific tests you’re looking for. The first text had separate sections for reliability and validity, which sometimes made learning about a specific test cumbersome. This edition has this info. grouped together and it’s much easier to learn everything you need to know about a specific test quickly. Additionally, there are recommendations at the beginning of each chapter that provide a “down and dirty” summary of the most pertinent evidence-based recommendations to consider when evaluating a given region (i.e. cx spine, hip, etc…). These are surprisingly helpful when you only have a few minutes to review.
