Description

Basic Orthopaedic Sciences is a brand new book for trainees in orthopaedic surgery covering all aspects of musculoskeletal basic sciences that are relevant to the practice of orthopaedics, as assessed in the FRCS Higher Specialty exams. Based on the authoritative ‘Stanmore course’ run by the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, the book contains enough information to serve as a concise textbook while its emphasis is on revision.

The book is a guide to the basic sciences underpinning the practice of orthopaedic surgery, covering aspects of biomechanics, biomaterials, cell & microbiology, histology, structure & function, immunology, pharmacology, statistics, physics of imaging techniques, and kinesiology as relevant to the subject of orthopaedics.

The book will help trainees understand the science that underpins the clinical practice of orthopaedics, an often neglected area in orthopaedic training. It covers the breadth of topics in orthopaedic basic science achieving a balance between readability and comprehensive detail.

Basic Orthopaedic Sciences is an invaluable guide for all trainees in orthopaedics and trauma preparing for the FRCS, as well as for surgeons at MRCS level.

User’s Reviews

Review “I feel that this book should be useful for all SpR trainees both to read
and digest as they progress through the registrar training programme, not
just for the exit examination. It is also a useful textbook for SpR
trainers as it is concise and wide-ranging with chapters that are based on
the current literature. This is an excellent addition to the literature and
has been based on a successful basic sciences course. The authors, the
editor and the associate editors have done a fine job in producing this
exceptional textbook.” The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons, May
2008

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ After purhasing a few more expensive books, I was disappointed to see they
were written in an outline format. That is not how I retain information. So
far this is a good basic science book to get into Ortho. Decent pictures,
and easy to follow writing. I am currently a general surgery intern looking
to switch to an ortho program in the future, and hoping this will help get
me there.

⭐ Nice ! Smart and concise basic science ! A must if you need to read
orthopaedic basic science , understand the basics and don’t have a lot of
time

⭐ excellent book, fulfills the authors’ proposal.delivered in another
country before the deadline.

⭐ This book is an essential for the FRCS T & O exam. I would not have passed
my basic science viva with out it. I own the previous edition and the
diagrams have been drastically improved. The diagrams now carry the text
and make a lot of areas that were unclear or complicated previously much
easier to understand. I was asked to explain MRI and XRs in my viva using
drawings and I could only do this because if this book. I would urge any
orthopaedic registrar to purchase this book early in their training and
even if you have the old edition it would be well worth investing in the
new one mainly for the excellent diagrams and pictures.

⭐ I found this book to have given too much of detail than was needed for
exam..the authors should seriously consider making it more concise and exam
oriented

⭐ Much better than the last version with the new pictures, but
OrthoBullets.com is better, less wordy and it’s free

⭐ Essential for FRCS Orthopaedics.

⭐ Value for money. Very good book !

⭐ Excellent book. Essential for all orthopedic trainees.

⭐ Much improved version of the previous edition. Superb diagrams which can
be replicated for the FRCS exam
