Description

Gamuts in Radiology is the world’s most complete, best known, and most trusted guide to radiologic differential diagnosis. Since 1975, radiologists the world over have used it to ensure that every diagnostic possibility is considered. For the Fourth Edition, Dr. Maurice M. Reeder has assembled an all-new board of Section Editors who have completely revised and updated their respective sections. New features in the fourth edition include: over 250 new gamuts, updates in more than 80 percent of the previous gamuts, an entire new section on obestetrical ultrasound.

User’s Reviews

From reviews of the third edition: “An absolute must for all radiologists and residents” “The grandfather of, and gold standard for, all texts dealing with differential diagnosis” “The book most used in the course of a working day” From the reviews of the fourth edition: “The fourth edition of the Gamuts in Radiology maintains its traditional focus by providing complete and accurate lists of differential diagnoses. … the primary purpose of this reference is to serve as an encyclopedic guide for the radiologist … . radiologists will likely find this book most helpful … . a learning tool for radiologists who are in training and as a refresher for radiologists who are in practice. … it would be a welcome addition to radiology reading rooms.” (Jesse Wei, and Phillip M. Boiselle, Radiology, July 2004) From the reviews of the fourth edition: “The latest edition of this book continues its emphasis on differential diagnosis with the addition of more than 250 new gamuts as well as updating of existing gamuts. … The purpose of the book remains to provide complete and accurate lists of differential radiological diagnoses. … This latest volume will continue to be an essential reference book for departmental libraries where it will be of value both to trainee and consultant radiologists … .” (Dr. D R Foster, RAD Magazine, November, 2003)

⭐ Not nearly as useful as I had hoped. There aren’t differentials for everything, but hey who’s perfect? The problem is that although they are arranged by anatomy, they seem too incomplete/random to use as a reference. And who has the time to read through and learn which differentials are actually useful? Most, unfortunately, are just laundry lists without embellishment, listing the incredible obscure sometimes above the common entities. And you’ll need to make your own mnemonics. I thought this was a classic, but I think it’s more of an antiquity. The google machine is probably more efficent. I’ll give it two stars for great price, great condition (it was supposedly used, but looked perfect and shrink wrapped), and prompt shipping.

⭐ Occasional help for boards ddx lists, but most helpful on call when you see an abnormality for which you need an appropriate ddx. This book has never let me down. No pictures. Pretty much just a list of ddx organized by finding. The lists are well referenced if you need additional info and/or pics. I like it much better than Dahnert.
