Description

The Advanced Ventilator Book is a companion to the best-selling The Ventilator Book and is written for clinicians who already have a solid foundation in the basics of mechanical ventilation. It goes beyond the ventilator itself to discuss strategies for severe hypoxemia and rescue maneuvers for refractory respiratory failure. Subjects covered in The Advanced Ventilator Book include:•Optimal PEEP•Treatment of severe bronchospasm•Prone positioning•Therapeutic neuromuscular blockade•Inhaled nitric oxide•Veno-Venous ECMO•The seven rules of severe respiratory failureDr. William Owens explains these complex concepts in a clear and readable manner. Like the original, this book is meant to be used in the ICU or Emergency Department instead of the library. The focus is on the bedside care of critically ill patients, as it should be.

⭐ I tried to be cute and buy this book 1st instead of the ventilator book that was a mistake. I would recommend reading the ventilator book before reading the advanced ventilator book although this book was very informative as a nurse I only really needed to know the information presented in the ventilator book. The one useful thing about this book was that it talked about ECMO which prior to reading that chapter I had very little to no understanding about. Some of the other chapters had a lot of equations and chemistry in them that as a nurse you don’t need to know.

⭐ This is a continuation of the Authors original Ventilator book. The book is very easy to read and my favorite chapters are on ECMO and respiratory mechanics. In this book as well as in part one, author has given different trouble shooting tips in different clinical scenarios. As an advanced book, I expected that this book will discuss ventilator dysnchrony in more detail. But it does not and has some vague reference to it. I also expected author to have included more graphics and actual ventilator readings to make it more practical. Overall a good read for intensivists.

⭐ No nonsense, concise, well written, practical information for those who regularly deal with patients on mechanical ventilation.

⭐ Concise, helpful, clear. I like how it summarizes in a few quick bullets at the end of each chapter.

⭐ Makes sense of things and summarizes well.

⭐ Good book for respiratory technicians

⭐ Easy read

⭐ Not very advanced. Just basic vent facts.

⭐ Did its job, its a book..

⭐ To the point and very practical. Information just needed.
