⭐ This is a gem of a book that has been well-reviewed in the literature. It contains a mix of 50 complex and standard cases in transfusion medicine that pathology residents and fellows in our program have found very valuable in studying for their Board exams.Each case is well laid out under the headings: Case with Error; Clinical Pitfall; Explanation and Consequences; Standards of Care. The cases each delineate a common error in transfusion medicine. We learn through mistakes and errors. This book, and the series as a whole, therefore provides a most valuable learning tool. We have used some of the cases in our transfusion teaching rounds at a major California academic teaching hospital and it is being used by colleagues in undergraduate medical schools teaching courses as well. It is easy to read and can be readily adapted to teaching rounds. There is no other book like it currently available that provides such classic cases in transfusion medicine. This book is part of a series “Diagnostic Standards of Care” in laboratory medicine that is edited by the well-published leader in the field Dr Michael Laposata. I highly recommend this book and others in the series!

⭐ This is a great case-based book to illustrate important “pearls” in transfusion medicine. Although transfusion medicine is complex, this book is straightforward and easy to read, and it is ideal for pathology residents, transfusion medicine fellows, medical students, or any physician or NP that orders blood products for their patients. Definitely worth the price, and would also recommend the other books in this series (particularly coagulation). Highly recommended.

⭐ I found this an excellent book for getting me to think about real cases based on common errors in transfusion medicine. The book is a series of cases that can be very effectively used to see how well one understands information from standard textbooks. The cases are well written and engaging and I found I had a much more comprehensive understanding of the field by the time I had worked through all 50 cases. I can now more readily recognize problems during morning rounds in transfusion medicine. I bought a copy for a colleague in private practice who does blood bank call and he found it very helpful. So this book seems highly suited for both academics and private practice.

⭐ The book was beneficial and the case studies were interesting!

⭐ I’m a board certified pathologist looking for a quick, easy review of transfusion medicine. This book does not do it. It’s not even good enough for a blood bank student. Don’t waste your money. I guess there is just no quick, easy reviews for such a complex topic…
