Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐The book is better than others in the sense that it provides more medical explanations to prepare you to pregnancy (it does not just give the stereotypical advice that baby is now 10 inches tall so time to paint the nursery) but I was looking for more detail (what is exactly happening? How is the placenta forming? More than just “now his heartbeat can be heard”, give me some data from medical studies explaining after how many weeks do you actually hear a heartbeat, how fast does it beat, how to identify it during an ultrasound etc). There was barely any data relating to miscarriage, which is a shame when you know that a lot of pregnancies end in a miscarriage (which was my case). All in all, there wasn’t that much information I didn’t already know from hearing women talk about their pregnancies around me.

⭐I love this book! Written by the experts, this book is more informative than “What to Expect When You Are Expecting”. I read both books during my pregnancy. Once my son was born, I read “The Mayo Clinic’s Guide to Your Baby’s First Year”, which was also very informative. I recommend anything written by the Mayo Clinic or the American Academy of Pediatrics. You can also find helpful information online…just search Mayo Clinic and the topic you are wondering about.

⭐I love that this book covers ALL options without judgement just facts. All Natural in your house to scheduled C-section in the hospital and everything in between. It was just updated and covers the most recent birthing options, exercises, lactation options, and labor education. I am reading with my first pregnancy. This book makes be feel better prepared and not as scared of what is to come. Thank you Mayo Clinic!

⭐I previously owned a book about pregnancy and labor which was really great, but I gave it away. Now expecting my 3rd child more than 10 years later, I decided to buy a newer book with hopes to find answers to some questions like whether elective C-section worth it and when should you consider it, what are the risks etc. I speficically chose a book written by the doctor with Ph.D to get some wisdom based on experience and recent statistical data collected by medical system.Well, this book has nothing like that. It provides very basic information about labor, similar to what you can find in the internet. It doesn’t provide any statistics, doesn’t rely on any research. It doesn’t even tell how to do understand quantitatively at what rate should the contractions go so that it is time to go to the hospital! The only advice is “your contractions has to be regular and become more frequent”, and next “don’t be embarrassed when you’re sent home if you arrive too early”. Really?! The whole point is to know the right rate, so that you drive to hospital only once and deliver, not drive there 5 times, and also don’t be late and don’t deliver in the car. :)Next, there is no strong advice on anything. Each sentence has either “may” or “maybe” or “can”. Check out the picture of the paragraph I included – how many “may” can you count? Imagine you come to the hospital and ask a doctor what to do, and you only hear “We may try this medication … Or may be that medication…Other things may work too. You can try them all”. Literally, this how this book provides the information – you are more confused then before. The books written by doctors should use scientific-based data and statistics, for example, “1 in 5 women can develop this condition during labor”. This data exist, however the author just decided not to use it and confuse the readers.Summary: This is a return… Don’t waste your time and money, buy something else…

⭐My wife is pregnant, we got this book for general knowledge and that is exactly what it is. It’s a perfect go-to book when we have questions. For all you pregnant women, please do not Google symptoms and questions. Invest in a good book like this one for your answers. It’s worth it and your child will appreciate it in the future 🙂

⭐I debated whether or not to buy the “What to Expect While You’re Expecting” series and I am glad I did further research and found the Mayo Clinic’s Guide… This is a scientifically sound text that will answer ALL of your pregnancy needs & then some. I highly recommend it to all expectant mamas!!

⭐The internet is dark and full of misinformation, but seriously, it is. If you want a reliable, well-researched source of information regarding conception, pregnancy, delivery, and post-delivery, this is a good place to start. It’s not a hard read; there’s lots of pictures, diagrams, and charts covering female anatomy, diet, and so on. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s never been pregnant before.

⭐I love this book! I work in the medical field and found this book to be a wonderful resource during my own pregnancy. It tells you about the babies development weekly. It gives you a monthly workout. It tells you the pertinent information on what to expect during your pregnancy (about doctors appointments, how your body is changing, and more). It has a reference where you can look up information on symptoms you may be having and what they mean. It also gives some great baby information (Example: crib/car seat safety, how many diapers to expect, how to breast feed). There is so much great information!

⭐As many first time mothers to be, I ended up ordering way too many books about pregnancy…. This one is good – it has it all and pictures as well. It’s quite medical-oriented so it is more about what the body is doing and how the birth works etc. If you want to have some emotional support and self-care tactics, get something more specific, but keep this one as well. I found that my husband appreciated it because in a plain and straightforward language it tells you what’s happening (no unicorns and rainbows in here). Again, it is an American version, so lots of birth planning stuff will apply if you live in Europe.

⭐Very informative pregnancy guide. Wanted a book that was more medical than anecdotal in nature, and this is perfect. As a Brit some of the information isn’t relevant as it’s based on the American health system, but apart from that I’ve found it very useful and the only book I’ve needed throughout my first pregnancy.

⭐I liked the detail that this book provided, as well as the depth of information.

⭐Even if is written for US women, I find it very useful

⭐A book for every expectant mother. It has a week by week development update. The books highlights the baby’s development and the changes in the mother as well, which is useful for expentant mother. It also lays out facts clearly. I like that the book also has sections on delivery and newborns. Overall a good purchase for expectant mothers who want facts.
