The association of some antipsychotics with different cardiovascular reactions, the withdrawal of certain antidepressants for security reasons, along with the possibility of better treatments for patients when side effects of medications used are known, have contributed to this interest. Meyler’s Side Effects of Psychiatric Drugs is organized by sections: antidepressants, neuroleptic drugs, hypnosedatives, drugs of abuse, drugs used in Alzheimer’s disease and psychological and psychiatric adverse effects of non-psychoactive drugs. For each section, there is overall and general information presenting the main features of the group and the different adverse reactions; then, there is information corresponding to the individual drugs with the same scheme. Although the current tendency is to find drug side effects and interactions through an internet service, this volume, in its completeness and ease of use, provides much more information than one would find on the internet. ⭐When I was looking for a resource about medication, I searched for a long time. By chance I came across the Meyer’s edition and are so pleased I did. It has all the information I need about medication and as a resource, I can get the students that come to psychiatry to use the edition for their own study. I am confident the rating of 5/5 is not an exaggeration it is worth it.

⭐This book is very good and useful.The contents (of psychiatric drugs) includes antidepressants and lithium, neuroleptics, hypnosedatives and a “drug-drug interactions” for each drug.There is not a section about anticonvulsivants used as mood stabilizing agents.I think it could make the book better, completeOtherwise, there is a very good section about drugs of abuse (a good surprise for me), a section about drugs used in Alzheimer desease and psychological/psychiatric adverse effects of non-psychoactive drugs.I recommend it.

⭐I bought this book at great expense expecting to read about the side effects of Psychiatric drugs such as Flupenthixol which is the torture treatment I am currently being forced to take by my doctor. However you can imagine how disapointed I was to discover that this work had only one short entry for the uncommon Nueroleptic. Instead about half the book concentrates on Illegal drugs such as Amphetamines, Cannabis and Cocaine ect rather than the Psychiatric drugs it is supposed to be about. It is very interesting to read about what happens to people who abuse these drugs by taking too much, but I wanted to know what happens to patients who are forced to abuse the legal Nueroleptics that doctors, read: sanctioned drug dealers make patients like myself take on a regular basis.Don’t Buy this book if you want to know about the side effects of Psychiatric drugs because Its biased text does not concentrate on these drugs at all Instead you are subjected to citations from various large pharmaceutical drug companies’ studies which only report positive effects from thier drugs and neglect the full spectrum of effects that these dangerous nueroleptics do to patients.Very Disapointing biased rendition for ignorant right-wing Psychiatrists only. Doesn’t do what it sais on the cover.
