Description

Human Molecular Genetics has been carefully crafted over successive editions to provide an authoritative introduction to the molecular aspects of human genetics, genomics and cell biology.Maintaining the features that have made previous editions so popular, this fifth edition has been completely updated in line with the latest developments in the field. Older technologies such as cloning and hybridization have been merged and summarized, coverage of newer DNA sequencing technologies has been expanded, and powerful new gene editing and single-cell genomics technologies have been added. The coverage of GWAS, functional genomics, stem cells, and disease modeling has been expanded. Greater focus is given to inheritance and variation in the context of populations and on the role of epigenetics in gene regulation. Key features:Fully integrated approach to the molecular aspects of human genetics, genomics, and cell biologyAccessible text is supported and enhanced throughout by superb artwork illustrating the key concepts and mechanismsSummary boxes at the end of each chapter provide clear learning pointsAnnotated further reading helps readers navigate the wealth of additional information in this complex subject and provides direction for further studyReorganized into five sections for improved access to related topicsAlso new to this edition – brand new chapter on evolution and anthropology from the authors of the highly acclaimed Human Evolutionary GeneticsA proven and popular textbook for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students, the new edition of Human Molecular Genetics remains the ‘go-to’ book for those studying human molecular genetics or genomics courses around the world.

User’s Reviews

Editorial Reviews: Review With every edition, the authors have improved their significant contribution to the field of human molecular genetics teaching. This book’s excellent design makes it unique and it provides a wonderful platform for student learning on acomplex subject. Luis F Escobar, MD., MS.(Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital) –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. About the Author Tom Strachan is Emeritus Professor of Human Molecular Genetics at Newcastle University, Newcastle, UK, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. He was the founding Head of Institute at Newcastle University’s Institute of Human Genetics (now the Institute of Genetic Medicine) and its Scientific Director from 2001 to 2009. Tom’s early research interests were in multigene family evolution and interlocus sequence exchange, notably in the HLA and 21-hydroxylase gene clusters. While pursuing the latter, he became interested in medical genetics. His most recent research has focused on developmental disorders and developmental control genes. Andrew Read is Emeritus Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Manchester, UK and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Andrew has been particularly concerned with making the benefits of DNA technology available to people with genetic problems. He established one of the first DNA diagnostic laboratories in the UK over 20 years ago (it is now one of two National Genetics Reference Laboratories), and was founder chairman of the British Society for Human Genetics, the main professional body in this area. His own research is on the molecular pathology of various hereditary syndromes, especially hereditary hearing loss. Drs. Strachan and Read were recipients of the European Society of Human Genetics Education Award –This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Well written, beautifully illustrated book with crustal clear explanations. Just what this aging MD, PhD needed to bring him back up to speed !

⭐I am taking an introductory course to genomics. The book is great for beginners. It has a lot of information and covers subjects that are not covered in molecular biology introductory courses. It helps to take a forward step into the world of Genomics!

⭐I own three editions of this book. It is beautifully written and has fantastic examples. I would recommend it for a graduate for advanced level genetics course.

⭐This is the best book I have on molecular genetics of mankind. Thorough, exceptionally educational and beautifully illustrated where needed, it is my go-to reference book when I need to learn or refresh my knowledge as a clinician-scientist working in human ophthalmic genetics.

⭐This is a very informative and nicely written modern textbook on the topic. I use it for teaching advanced students and for self-education.

⭐The “reasonably up-to-date information, its organization, physical dimensions, and overall “feel”, make it an excellent addition to your bioinformatics library.

⭐Got it

⭐Wonderfull book. My dauther is using it for her genetics clase in college. Shipping was very fast.

⭐Great book, great price, great condition, great delivery speed; great thanks!

⭐Not found.

⭐The search facility & the index of the Kindle version do not work well together. This is a huge negative. After trying to achieve the best result with searches I have come to the conclusion by trial & error that there are multiple methods that work to varying degrees, but overall they are flaky. The ‘nucleotide Triphosphate’ column of Table 1.1 is not completely viewable as it does not fit on the page.

⭐Exceptionally good book. Its a concentrated form of knowledge. Each and every sentence is important. Diagrams are very much self explanatory. There is no need to read any other book on this subject if this book is read thoroughly.

⭐Per mia figlia che studia medicina in inglese era un obbligo averlo. Se poi puoi farlo arrivare nel tabacchino sotto università anche meglio,
