About the Author Earl Boysen is the founder of UnderstandingNano.com and was an engineer in the semiconductor industry for 20 years. He coauthored the first edition of this book as well as The All-New Electronics Self-Study Guide. Nancy Boysen has written more than 60 books on technology. She is senior editor for UnderstandingNano.com and runs TechSmartSenior.com. –This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. From the Author I’m one of the authors for the book and a graduate student at Rice University in Houston, Texas – one of the academic leaders in nanotechnology. Personally, my unique background allows me to speak to a wide audience: my engineering degree has given me insight into transitioning research into practical applications; my Air Force experience has allowed me to understand the needs of our government and military (huge financial backers of university research). Now, while working in the trenches of nanotechnology, I’ve come across a disconnect between this research and the average person. How do we communicate this technology’s importance and potential applications to the business leader, venture capitalist, investor, or entrepreneur to make it widely available in every day uses? This book does just that by identifying needs and separating science fiction from science fact – dispelling the myths and laying out realistic expectations not only in applications but timeframe as well. We identify three industries: materials, computers, and healthcare. These areas will be greatly affected by nanotechnology and advances in each will continue to feed each other. For example, future nano-scale processor fabrication methods will be used to create unique materials for healthcare applications. Another “vision” of the authors was to “show” nanotechnology – there are over 100 line art and photos illustrating the science and applications of nanotechnology distinguishing this book from other nano books. This makes it far easier for the average high school student or even baby boomer to pick up and quickly understand this emerging technology and provide them the tools to choose either a career in the sciences or invest in a nano-company stock. I encourage those interested in this technology, whether it is for shear interest or for business ideas, to closely read this book. –This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐Oh yeah! I love this book! My friend was recommended to read it before her research with Rice University on using nanotechnology to fight different kinds and parts of cancer.

⭐Terrible book quality for $20. Paper is brownish, super thin (so print underneath shows through), not sharp printing. Very difficult to read. Last time to buy book from Amazon if they are not guarding quality.

⭐The book was worth reading in so far as this is a newly developing field and one that will have a significant impact on mankind’s future. Information was well presented and easy to understand. The only drawback was that there was a lot of repetition from chapter to chapter, perhaps because the chapters were designed to stand alone so the reader could read them in any order.

⭐5stars.

⭐If you want a basic book to introduce you to Nanotech, this is it. I read it in its entirety on a flight from NYC to LA and never put it down…then of course I am a Big Bang fan…

⭐a good reference.

⭐This book is very well written introduction in new and exceptionally fast developing branch of science and technology. Its content and stile of exposition corresponds with second line of title – for dummies. The authors have carried outtheir task successfully.

⭐Rght off the bat an excellent table showing the size relationship of nano scale devices to other entities like a virus and a bacteria was displayed. This was very helpful. As informative as my audible.com lecture is pictures are so helpful.

⭐It is an amazing book especially for beginners in this field ‘ nanotechnology’. The most important thing in this book is the ability to read any chapter from it as the reader like regardless the order of chapters which means that you can start reading of chapter 5 then reading chapter 3 and so forth because each chapter gives the reader a rooting scientific idea in this field which is differs from other rooting ideas in other chapters. So, reader can read the book randomly and really it can be considered as a good and easy introduction that makes the reader engaging with this new field and its applications.

⭐This book has now helped 3 of my sons through GCSE’s and A Levels..great book and simplified the subject to make it easy to understand.

⭐Once again the dummies books have given a really simple to follow book that opens the understanding of scientific terms.

⭐A good overview of the subject. Easy for the non teckie to understand.

⭐Bought it for my son, ending up reading it myself!
