Description

Algorithms serve an important purpose in the field of psychopharmacology as heuristics for avoiding the biases and cognitive lapses that are common when prescribing for many conditions whose treatment is based on complex data. Unique in the field, this title compiles twelve papers from the Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project at the Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency Training Program and presents practical ways to adopt evidence-based practices into the day-to-day treatment of patients. Psychopharmacology Algorithms is a useful resource for practicing psychiatrists, residents, and fellows, as well as psychiatric nurse practitioners, psychiatric physician assistants who prescribe, advanced practice pharmacists who prescribe, and primary care clinicians. Teachers of psychopharmacology may find it particularly valuable. Researchers in clinical psychopharmacology may find it helpful in identifying important practice areas that are in need of further study. Contains ten updated psychopharmacology treatment algorithms designed to assist with the clinical use of psychiatric medications, each complete with extensive critical evaluation of the evidence supporting the rationales for each treatment step and the advantages and disadvantages of various alternatives to the recommended treatments.Provides introductory material explaining the usefulness of algorithms as clinical tools and how to make best use of the algorithms in the book.Papers focusing on inpatient psychopharmacology, and on residency training in psychopharmacology using the algorithms are includedAnnual updates to the accompanying eBook are planned.Prepared by David N. Osser, MD, general editor of the Psychopharmacology Algorithm Project at the Harvard South Shore Program and its website psychopharm.mobi, Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and an editorial board member of several psychiatric and psychopharmacology journals and the Model Curriculum for Psychopharmacology of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐The issue is the technique in which the medicine or route is issued. The methods of “if not this, then that” shows no knowledge of why the algorithm is any more important than only the start, “having a conversation between provider and patient. The algorithms listed shows a pyramid of just insurance getting paid off of medication methods. I am a combat disabled veteran. Many patients do not have knowledge as Doctors do and they will accept the emergency medicines at high doses. I believe the algorithms are flawed. Communication and teachings are best. And if America wants to not end up with crazy killers, stop using veterans as lab rats. More than half the book was the methods used for the last decade on myself. We should all come to a prevention in illness vs treatments. ABC. Tell them when it ends. It should not be forever. Also what is the deal with mirtazapine being the start of almost each. Regardless, how the book reads is roughly the SOP for the VAMC mental health. I find it not new and not effective. I expected better from the top school for my health vs the money behind how each department will make after visit after visit after visit to a psychiatrist. Departments including the psychiatrist , pharmaceuticals, insurance and so on, and there the endless repetition of those algorithms. Kindly saying, I wish people would just listen to patients more closely, you’re helping the patient, suppose to “ do no harm “ vs helping science. But what’s one voice. Just my opinion and review.LexonXanChase.

⭐Excellent book. Read it and remember it. It is very helpful and useful for day to day psychiatry.

⭐This is one of the best resources for decision-making, and very helpful for those of us in grad school learning about critical thinking and medication management.

⭐BEST book ever!!! Thank you.

⭐This book has perfect algorithms for helping determine medications for patients in primary care or in psychiatric practice. Got it for myself for school and recommend to all of my primary care NP friends!
