Description

As final examinations approach, medical students often become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of knowledge required to pass all subjects in one go, including surgery, medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, pharmacology, and psychiatry. Students cannot know each of these subjects in as much detail as they did during their individual attachments and they need to concentrate on important topics rather than minutiae. Whereas existing textbooks cover many topics very well and in great detail, they are lengthy and difficult to read in a short space of time; some subjects are poorly covered and give no real understanding of practical management and logical thought processes – the exact requirements for passing finals. In this second edition, each chapter has been extensively rewritten and updated with the help of experts in their respective subjects.

User’s Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐The book was just okay. IT was not as i expected, it was a bit tattered. The state of rhe book was not explained properly on amazon, so it was disappointing.

⭐Concise and readable, topical and accessible. If forced to chose one book for 3rd year surgery, this would be it. While not exhaustive, it serves an excellent core text to be amplified and annotated via other sources (Essential Surgery, Surgical Recall, The ‘Net).

⭐There are few medical textbooks I’ve ever read that are written with the clarity of this book. Its dense text may look offputting on a first glance but it’s when you start reading, it’s as if someone is simply talking to you.It covers all the bases clearly, sometimes in not enough detail, but certainly well enough for 3rd (and possibly 5th year) medical exams.Get it. Enough said.

⭐I used this book a number of years ago for my medical finals. It’s very well written, not like a standard textbook but rather as detailed prose discussing each topic. I found it much easier to understand, and hence remember, each topic. I’d recommend this to any medical student.

⭐A friend of mine lent his copy of “Surgical Talk” when I was revising for finals and I only wish I’d known about it much much earlier. It cuts out a lot of the detailed content that many other textbooks get bogged down in and cuts to the chase, giving you the basics that you need to know as a medical student. The advice on the various types of exams, from written papers to OSCEs, is also very useful, and I was quite impressed too by the hand drawn diagrams which made certain concepts easier to understand, such as different types of stoma. I was so impressed that I decided to buy it, and I’m recommending it to all friends of mine who are medical students or junior doctors for their surgical rotations.

⭐[[ASIN:1860944949 Surgical Talk: Revision in Surgery] My son found this book perfect for his ultimate, placement year on his medicine course. It is small, lightweight and ,succinct (easy to hide in pocket for quick referral when put on the spot by demanding consultants!) .

⭐If, as a medical student, you wish to pass your surgical exams then you should buy this book. It goes through everything from the history and examination to the procedures and their risks. It is essentially the undergraduate surgery course in paperback.

⭐Excellent book with concise descriptions.
