The final chapter on practical microbiology for MBBS students makes this book ideal for medical undergraduates. I am a Medical Laboratory Technician and know how bad many science textbooks can be. At long last, I have found it: This is the first Microbiology textbook that I would heartily recommend for MLT students. It is nearly everything a good Micro textbook should be (at least for MLT students). It is easy to understand and thorough but concise. I have found several other Micro textbooks that were easy to understand, but all of them were lacking in information. This one had what I needed, especially with regard to identifying organisms, which is the one area many books are lacking. The book is broken up into very helpful sections and it’s easy to find what you need. It has charts, lists, almost everything you’d want.

There are a few problems that could be corrected in the next edition. It is lacking in pictures of organisms, which admittedly would have driven up the price. But for an MLT student, they can be very helpful. There are some pictures, just no where near as many as I would have hoped. Also, it does not cover parasitology. My college used a completely different textbook for this, so in my case, it wouldn’t matter, but it might for some. This publisher does offer a book on parasitology but I have not read it. One other minor issue is that the book really needs some editing. There are numerous places where it seems the author used the wrong word or skipped a word. I did not have trouble understanding the book, however. It was always something simple, not anything important.
