Description

The Practice of Emergency and Critical Care Neurology serves as the definitive authoritative reference on the care of the patient with a critical neurologic disorder at risk of deterioration and in need of immediate attention. This work is an expanded new edition of the book on the management of patients with critical neurologic disorders. This single-authored monograph is broad in scope and follows the patients from the very moment they enter the emergency department to their care in the neurosciences intensive care unit.

This book condenses the essential information into several sections. These are: The General Principles of Recognition of Critically Ill Neurologic Patients in the Emergency Department, The Evaluation of Presenting Symptoms Indicating Urgency and Critical Emergency, General Principles of Management of Critically Ill Patients, Monitoring Devices and Diagnostic Tests, Complete Management of Specific Disorders in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit, Postoperative Neurosurgical and Neurointerventional Complications, Management of Medical Complications and End of Life Care.

User’s Reviews

“Dr. Wijdicks has produced another superb and practical summary of the field, peppered with his own considerable experience. The unified tone and approach in the book is a great advantage, especially to those starting out. Experienced practitioners will find many important but controversial issues well addressed along with invaluable advice. This is a major reference work for all aspects of acute neurology.”

The Practice of Emergency and Critical Care Neurology by Dr. Wijdicks is simply one of the most incredible texts I have ever read. It is amazing that a single author can comprehensively yet concisely summarize the key points in so many of the different aspects of neurocritical care so well. One can see that this author has complete command of the fields of critical care as well as neurology with the combination of evidence based summaries blended with clinical pearls and real life experience. Because there is only one author this book reads far more smoothly and consistently than most multiauthored books of this scope. I am a practicing cardiologist/intensvist trying to learn the field of neurocritical care and recommend this book most highly to anyone interested in the field.
