Covering all aspects of the syllabus, Crash Course offers students a fast way to recap on what they need to know to get through the exams with ease. Styled in an easy-to-follow, readily accessible format, each book is prepared by senior medical students or junior doctors – under faculty supervision – to give them the correct level of information perfectly tailored to current curricula requirements. The series now includes improved pedagogic features and a fully revised self-assessment section, updated to meet current examination needs.
I would really recommend this book to medical students looking to revise or get to grips with rheumatology in particular. The text gives concise overviews of each clinical presentation and is logically laid out. It would benefit from more content on the musculoskeletal topics such as fractures and soft tissue trauma, however for revision of topics such as arthritis, back pain, vasculitides and autoimmune multisystem disorders you can’t go far wrong with this book.
I bought this book because I thought the material covered is better than the “at a glance” equivalent, and I also needed a quick revision guide for exams. It covers the basic principles of orthopaedics and rheumatology, but isn’t great on the different types of fractures. It’s not very detailed/useful if you want to learn a bit more about the common fractures in the body. I’m all medical students get quizzed by their consultants while in the wards/clinics/theatres. Personally, I don’t think this book is sufficient for that purpose. I just hope it contains ‘enough’ for me to pass my ortho exam.
