An excellent guide to operative surgery, especially for more junior grades. This book is perfect for reading up on emergency or unexpected procedures beforehand, for example when assisting on acute lists. It has enough depth to be able to pre-empt the following steps in entirely new operations, and in the majority of cases provides a useful summary of the procedure you’ve just seen or assisted with for revision afterwards. I bought it to use on the jobs I’m less familiar with as part of my core surgery rotations, as I couldn’t find a consistent website to use before each procedure. Also at only slightly thicker than the clinical medicine handbook, it still fits in the back pocket of scrub trousers.
