⭐ As a medical student, I never really enjoyed cardiology. This probably had more to do with my teachers, than the intrinsic nature of the subject. My attitude might well have been different if I’d had this book to support my studies. Without it though, I managed to graduate MB,BS, and subsequently I must have developed an adequate knowledge of cardiovascular medicine to satisfy the demands of the Membership exam. Now an ageing FRCP with a responsibility for CPD, I recognise it is as important to keep up with the basics of general medicine as it is to remain at the forefront of my own specialist area. As all my patients have a heart as well as their cancer, I need to have an understanding of cardiology. So I bought this book to revise, and I have found it to be brilliant. It is well laid out, beautifully written and generously illustrated with detailed diagrams, colourful cartoons, radiological images and clinical pictures. A number of case reports are included, which bring the dry facts to life. After all, real doctors learn from clinical experience as much as lists of facts. There are plenty of summary boxes with key facts, and some questions for you to self-test your learning. The book manages to explain complex conditions in a logical sequence of straightforward steps in a clever way which makes it possible to understand the subtleties without misleading over-simplification. It starts with relevant anatomy and physiology, and then covers the pathology, investigation and treatment of the range of cardiac and vascular diseases. It is up to date, evidence based, and most importantly understandable. I am not one to lavish unjustified praise, and I have looked hard for errors and omissions, but failed to find any of significance. I can thoroughly recommend this book to both young students and also established doctors. I have been sufficiently impressed to have gone out and bought two others from the same series.

⭐ Really useful book clearly laid out. May lack some important pathophysiology in certain sections. Mistake on page 115 of cardiac murmurs, says it is diastole between S1 and S2 and systole between S2 and S1, on a otherwise nice representation of cardiac murmurs

⭐ Great book

⭐ Great book, explains in a way that is in depth but easy understand. Will be looking for other books in the series. Student nurse.

⭐ Good quality and for those serious about learning the cardiovascular system.
