Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ The layout is not reader friendly and there is not much detail.

⭐ Could not have asked for a better book for surgery, managed to review it back to front over first 3 weeks of rotation, by the last week Dr thought I had massively improved. Book is clear, outlines the basics anatomy etc, then delves in deep. Only thing I wish for is an accompanying question series.

⭐ Short and sweet.

⭐ Excellent

⭐ The format isn’t user friendly especially if you don’t have my time to study due to rotation. Too many details which are not on exams

⭐ This book is excellent for a broad overview of surgery and how to work up and treat surgical presentations. Although it is very wordy at times (especially for such a time consuming rotation) and lacks a lot of important topics that are heavily tested on the shelf exam. For instance, there is hardly any explanation regarding bleeding disorders, which I found to be heavily tested on the shelf. Hardly anything on pre- and post-op evaluation and care; again, topics heavily tested on the shelf. Nothing whatsoever on tubes, drains, or catheters. It was good to get an overall feel for what surgeons do, but as far as test prep goes I think it missed the mark. The best advice I can give anyone who is taking the surgery shelf would be to read the first 150 pages of Essentials of General Surgery by Peter Lawrence, that is what worked best for me. I also used NMS casebook and pestana to make sure I covered all the bases but again, the first few chapters of Lawrence were THE MOST important thing I did to prepare for the shelf, which I wound up doing very well on. Good luck.

⭐ Too detailed, especially with extraneous information. Not a great book to use for the shelf or Step 2.
