Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ This book is old as its based on the DSM 4 criteria. That being said other than chapter rearrangement and re-naming, I can’t tell much difference bw the 5th and 6th (the newer version) versions of the book. There are small text boxes that list the criteria and these can always be looked up.

⭐ I found this a great reference book. It outlines concepts and DSM criteria well and gets to the important points, which also makes it a good review tool before exams. This book is something I probably will use when I do rounds 3rd year of med school. Also appreciate the liberal but not excessive use of examples to illustrate the disorders and certain aspects of them.

⭐ This was the assigned text for a second year PA student rotation in psych which I now oversee. I am trained as a family medicine MD, and I think it includes a lot of very good information for primary care in particular, with understandable explanations of disease and treatment. There is a slightly conservative bias, I feel, with comments such as a condition being related to problems with the mother, not “parent” or “caregiver.” Overall it is quite inclusive and understandable, with good organization.

⭐ This is great for learning psychiatry. It has all of the DSM-IV criteria in easy-to-read charts and then explains in the text each criteria while giving examples. This is not light reading, however, and if you’re wanting psychology this is not the book for you. I’m a medical student and it was recommended reading by the faculty, so glad they chose this!

⭐ I haven’t used it much, but it is a nice, concise book for psychiatry-related studies. I’m not 100% sure I would have bought, however, if I had to pay for it myself.

⭐ Great for Medical Students and Practitioners….must have basic medical eduation/vocabulary Highly concentrated survey of the science and art of psychiatry….tightly writen primer JET

⭐ very good textbook

⭐ I bought this used and was given a second discount because the book was damaged. However it has not affected the readability. I am enjoying this text. It is well written, easy to read and to the point. I’m pleased that it is not like many texts that are boring and long winded. I do recommend this as a supplement or main text.

⭐ Love it

⭐ Great
