⭐I tried to use the Mayo Clinic Infectious Disease Board Review textbook as the basis for a study group to prepare to recertify for the ABIM ID Boards. However, the book is not very useful to infectious disease specialists preparing for this exam because it is too superficial and limited in scope. On the other hand, I have not found any better stand alone textbook. One could use this textbook as an outline with the understanding that one would have to use other resources to study.This textbook is relatively cheap and has some good visual materiel.For physicians preparing for the ID boards, a much better product is the George Washington University ID Board Review, available as a home study. It includes two binders of slides, on line questions and access to the recording of lectures. Is is great but of course much more expensive. Rush University also has a good home study product but not nearly as good.

⭐I was unsatisfied for several reasons:1. I found that having the entire subject matter described in outline form to be user unfriendly. This is hard to read, hard to pay attention to, and frequently obscure. Often it felt as if it were referring to something that was self evident. There were occasional apparent mistakes in how the outlines were structured.2. The text was deficient in providing relevant recent updates of infectious diseases. For example, there was no discussion of recent data suggesting treatment failures were more common for S. aureus infections with an MIC GTE 2.0, despite their being a section on pharmacokinetics.3. The selection of medically important antivirals makes no mention of ribavirin, telaprevir, bocepravir, entecavir or recently added antiretrovirals.4. The section on C. diff makes no mention of rifaximin or fidaxomicin5. Recently described pathogens were often not mentioned.6. No mention of the NDM-1 Klebsiella outbreakThus as a text reflecting recent advances in the field, I found this to be insufficient.

⭐I purchased this to prepare for the ID Boards, but did not use much. Obviously, it is impossible to cover all areas of clinical infectious diseases in a review book, and thus we expect this kind of item to cover “what is most likely asked” on the Boards. I do not think this review book successfully meets such an expectation. It is not clear what each section wants to highlight to increase the likelihood of passing the Boards for the one who uses this book. Furthermore, review questions do not seem to be particularly high yield, compared to what is offered at some of the Board Review courses available.

⭐This is a good I.D. board review book, with good quality pictures and paper.Most topics are covered, but some are totally omitted.One thing that needs most attention is the board review questions section. Sometimes the language in the questions appeared hard to understand or just inappropriate. Sometimes the answer choices were confusing, the answer explanations could have been a little longer as well.There are typos in the graphs as well.Over all I still recommend this review book for medical students, interns, residents, fellows and practicing physicians.Hopefully the next edition will be even better.

⭐The best and only board review book for ID boards. Though I wish it was available as a real e-book. The Kindle version is essentially a PDF with no options for font sizes or styles.

⭐Is very basic for an ID specialist but it is very organized and very useful, very helpful when you are preparing for boards!

⭐Great book. It gives all you ever need to know in Infectious Diseases for the boards and more.Nice pictures, very well written and an excellent review.

⭐It is very concise and informative. I was surprised to find many questions from the book in the exam. Great!!
