This high-yield manual-style reference will prove useful for a wide variety of practitioners looking for quick, practical, and current infectious disease information.

Reviews

While I really liked the idea for this book, it is far too small and lacking in detail to make it useful. Unfortunately I am returning it. The first section has syndromes (pharyngitis, UTI etc) and the second section is 1-2 page synopses of specific bacteria and viruses. It is not detailed enough to use to expand your differential diagnosis. It is not detailed enough to use to look up a specific bacteria to really help understand clinical presentation. It is definitely not detailed enough to help use to guide therapy (for example, for legionella spp it says “macrolides, tetracyclines, and quinolones can all be used”) and one would need to pull out another reference for dosage/duration/etc. There are some nice charts (ie possible etiologies of encephalitis) which I do like, but not enough to keep the book. I cannot really imagine how this might be useful in anyone’s practice.
