Description

Here’s a rich pictorial review of normal and abnormal human prenatal development. For each body system or region, you’ll find a brief description of the developmental plan, with key concepts and terminology, followed by discussions of histological principles, the classification of congenital defects, and basic cellular, molecular, and genetic concepts.

Reviews

The book has a very clear formula: the bulk of it consists of 65 no-nonsense 2-page articles on a wide variety of topics on human anatomy, metabolism, genetics, etc. The left page is for diagrams, usually 3 or 4 of them, illustrating key concepts. The right page is very dense prose, introducing vocabulary and concepts at a rapid pace. You can imagine an expert on, for example, human embryology being asked to write a single large page containing the fifty or so most fundamental things to know on the topic, and to sketch out a few diagrams supporting that. This isn’t a book you’ll likely be racing through; plan on getting yourself a cup of coffee, opening to an article, and living there for a little while.
