Description

Stress fractures are fatigue failures of bone caused by unusual or repeated stress on bone and are among the more common sports injuries encountered. Often going unreported or occasionally unnoticed, athletes run the risk of a more serious fracture if untreated. Stress Fractures in Athletes focuses on the presentation, evaluation and treatment of these injuries. Divided into two sections, the first part provides in-depth description of the pathophysiology, epidemiology and biomechanics of stress fractures, as well as a discussion of classification, imaging and some general treatment concepts. The second part expands on treatment and takes each relevant anatomical region into consideration: lumbar spine, pelvis, femur, knee, tibia, upper and lower extremities, and the ribs and shoulder girdle. A chapter on insufficiency fractures, commonly associated with osteopenia and osteoporosis, is also included. As such, Stress Fractures in Athletes are a comprehensive resource for sports medicine practitioners, orthopedic surgeons, primary care physicians and physical therapists alike.

Reviews

This engaging little book is highly readable and packed with up-to-date information … it covers clearly, concisely and quite comprehensively the aspects of risk factor management, causes and pathology of stroke, … and answers many questions that would benefit the patients themselves. …

I took all my A&P classes and now I’m taking a patho class. This book goes into good detail in some pathologies, and is lacking in others, but overall, I love detail so this book was pretty decent. I’m not sure why this book got such low ratings, as I think the information is really good, and this is coming from someone who owns 4 other massive pathology books. Pair this book with google/research on your own when things are unclear and you’ll be fine!

Like all revision books, it misses parts out and is too skimpy on others, but it is well written and set out. The clear black and white text is also easier on me, since I have dyslexia
Terrible layout for the kindle version. The questions are simply stuck together on each other as a plain text. It makes difficult to reading and search for a question. I repented to having bought the kindle version instead of the paper version.

Like the 1st Edition, the 2nd Edition of “Successful Private Practice in Neuropsychology: A Scientist-Practitioner Model” by Mary Pepping focuses upon neuropsychology in the private practice setting. However, its expanded focus on institutional work and neuro-rehabilitation domains makes it worthwhile reading for neuropsychologists who practice in a number of different work settings. Graduate students, early-career professionals, and clinician-scientists who have worked as neuropsychologists for many, many years will find useful information in this text which will help them to maintain a high-level of assessment and treatment skills. With some of Dr. Pepping’s valuable insights arising from her years of experience working in private practice and institutional settings, the reader can work toward becoming “a good enough” neuropsychologist and find that a sufficiently meaningful, satisfying, and renumerative goal. Indeed, like no other text which I have read, this book can assist in helping one in their efforts to achieve a healthy balance between one’s career and other important aspects of their life.” –Robert L.
