Reviews
“This book, which I can thoroughly recommend, is certainly revealing and contains much that is critical for caregivers to know. I believe every professional working with those in dementia and their caregivers would do well to have a copy. The book lends itself to reading straight through and then to being used as and when it is necessary as a reference. It is easy to find specific information as the framework is helpful and logical. The sections on the spiritual needs of those with dementia were welcome topics… I wish I had had this book when I set out on the caregiving journey.” –International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry (International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry 20100503)
I have read several books and articles on the subject but had not found any as helpful. The style of describing the specific setting shared by father and daughter as the disease progressed was very informative and provided a setting to better understand the many changes that accompany a single event like forgetting one’s favorite meal. Alzheimer is a horribly progressive disease and it is helpful to know what is coming next. Knowledge is power and being prepared for progressive loss of control eases the caregiver through the stages. I was able to connect with the writer and found her observations to be credible and appropriate. This read may be better suited to a family member than a clinician but anyone will benefit from reading this. My sympathy goes to anyone who is living this experience. Learn as much as possible and try not to be surprised by what you experience tomorrow.
