Reviews

Reviews from Amazon users which were colected at the time this book was published on the website:

⭐I was able to purchase the first three volumes of this 3rd edition 5 volume set, which is only a few years old, for a fraction of their original price. These three are of particular interest to me, as a professional optical designer. Volumes 4 and 5 are more esoteric, and in any event, have not yet showed up on the Amazon used book offerings.Sponsored by the Optical Society of America, each volume contains some two dozen chapters by experts in each subject.Vol. 1: Geometrical and Physical Optics, Polarized Light, Components and Instruments.Vol. 2: Design, Fabrication and Testing; sources and detectors, Radiometry and Photometry.Vol. 3: Vision and Vision Optics.

⭐Terrible print quality

⭐The print quality of this book is horrible. About 25% of the pages look like they were printed and then sent through the printer again aligned just slightly off. It causes it to look blurry. The content seems correct but is poorly laid out and explained. For example: “The positive direction of the reflected E vectors are not the same as the actual directions… If n1>n0 at Es will be in the negative direction”Instead: The drawing shows the E vectors for N1< N0 however if N1>N0 Es will be in the negative direction.Instead of saying the drawing isn’t always right why not say when the drawing is right and what it looks like under the other condition. Much less ambiguous.I didn’t know about it ahead of time but wish I would have gotten Principles of Optics by Borne and Wolf instead.

⭐Very useful handbook.
