Description

This book embodies the experience gained through years of training of hundreds of doctors and scholars who came to China to study acupuncture and moxibustion. The basic theories of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) are completely introduced in this book. Every effort was made to inocorporate figured, tabular and written materials, and to convey the theories of TCM.According to ancient inscriptions on oracle bones and turtle carapaces, traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to treat disease for over 4,000 years. In their struggle for survival, the Chinese people have organized their disease fighting experiences into a theoretically and practically coherent system of medicine. This empirically derived system, TCM, is one of the significant unique inventions of the Chinese culture and an effective mode of healing concurrently used throughout the world. This book is a basic introduction to the basic principles and methods of TCM. However, while the fundamentals across the practice of TCM may be similar, there are two main arms of treatment; these being acupuncture and moxibustion, and medicinal therapy. After presenting the fundamentals of TCM, common to both treatment modes, this book focuses on the theoretical and practical applications of acupuncture and moxibustion.
