Analysis of a case report demonstrating the use of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18-FDG-PET/CT) to detect inflammation in atherosclerotic lesions. The technique, established in oncology, is shown to be relevant for assessing high-risk features in atherosclerosis and for diagnosing inflammatory diseases like large vessel vasculitis (LVV) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR).
