Description

Retinopathy is the most common complication of diabetes. This review summarizes recent studies on the systemic associations of diabetic retinopathy, emphasizing that it reflects widespread microcirculatory disease and may serve as a novel biomarker for vascular disease risk, including stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and nephropathy.
