This research compares the utility of the INTERGROWTH-21ST and Fenton charts for assessing extrauterine growth in very low birth weight infants (<1500g). The study found that INTERGROWTH-21ST is more sensitive in defining the Small for Gestational Age (SGA) rate, while Fenton is more sensitive in defining extrauterine growth retardation (EUGR) at discharge. These discrepancies complicate the effective monitoring of premature infants.
