Description

This retrospective study examined the association between commonly obtained echocardiographic markers within the first 12 hours of life and eventual treatment of a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA) in preterm neonates (<32 weeks gestational age). The study found that neonates needing PDA treatment had significantly higher markers of cardiac output, including left ventricular output (LVO), right ventricular output (RVO), and superior vena cava (SVC) flow. These early measures may predict the need for future PDA treatment.
