Description
The first major textbook to cover the treatments of DSM-5[registered] disorders in one volume, Gabbard’s Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders, Fifth Edition, provides up-to-date, comprehensive information for the busy clinician. Like its predecessors, this new edition was written by leading experts in psychiatry and constitutes an authoritative guide to standard of care for psychiatric disorders. However, the book has been thoroughly revised to conform to the DSM-5[registered], with sections and chapters corresponding to the manual’s categories, and the research summarized in this volume based on studies using DSM-IV[registered] criteria. This revision focuses exclusively on treatment, emphasizing those that have been deemed effective through the use of randomized, controlled trials, supplemented by the authors’ prodigious clinical wisdom. Since it was first published in 1989, the book has assumed the mantle of “classic,” a reputation founded on scientific rigor, cutting-edge coverage, and scrupulous editing. Evidence-based and DSM-5[registered] compatible, this new edition of Gabbard’s Treatments of Psychiatric Disorders represents a leap forward in accessibility and practicality.
Reviews
As the title says this books is focused on treatment and has compiled an easy to read, succinct and up to date source written by experts in the field. The book is also smaller, and more compact which makes it handier than last edition, however it comes at a price; the textbook is stripped of any guidance for assessing conditions. For instance, the previous edition of this books makes suggestions on labs and methods for assessing for delirium and then follows up with treatment guidelines, while the newest one takes out all advice and information on assessment that substantially weakens this book on a resource in my opinion.
