This work has been carried out with the direct or indirect help of many colleagues to whom I want to thank their collaboration. In the first place, to my thesis directors, Prof Dr Garcia-Arumí and especially Dr J.A. Buil Calvo: This thesis would not have been possible without their direction and without their absolute dedication to the Ophthalmology Department of the Hospital de Sant Pau to which I belong.
