Reviews

I just took my shelf exam in OBGYN, for anyone looking to pass this exam and the step 2ck. You must buy this book. It may look a lot to read but it isn’t. While i was studying for my shelf i took few NBMEs AND I crossed references in order find out where some of answers choice came from. I was stunned. Guest what? From this book. I don’t work for this company, I’m just a student like you who is just sharing his experience with you. Thank you,

I’m using this book for an Advanced Pathophysiology course for nurse practitioner school. This is the most poorly written book I have ever laid eyes on. It is incredibly disjointed jumping about from one topic to another like a rabbit on crack. It turns simple concepts into maddening complicated mazes of definitions and poorly worded descriptions. It is a true disappointment to me that any school would use this kindling for such an important class. I believe I would be unable to understand these topics if it weren’t for the incredible undergrad patho class I took a few years back. I have learned nothing from this book and end up looking up all of my study topics using other resources. PLEASE if you are are a school and are making a decision about what book to use….. PICK SOMETHING ELSE!

I am a visual learner and when I first laid eyes on this book, I HAD to have it. It did not disappoint. On the clinically common subjects there are usually more than 3 pictures, so you can get accustomed to seeing it from every angle possible. The thing that hooked me to this book was that next to the pictures there are 1-6 lines of description which is a super high-yield summary of what you need to know about the pathology(etiology, pathogenesis, morphology, correlations, complications).

Description

The author team of Prescott’s Microbiology continues the tradition of past editions by providing a balanced, comprehensive introduction to all major areas of microbiology. This balance makes Microbiology appropriate for microbiology majors and mixed majors courses. The authors have introduced a number of pedagogical elements designed to facilitate student learning. They also remain focused on readability, artwork, and the integration of several key themes (including evolution, ecology and diversity) throughout the text, making an already superior text even better.

Reviews

This looks like a much better textbook than the one I had in the class I decided to drop so I could teach myself Chemistry first. It is well written and the print is small but the font is bi-focal friendly. Makes for easier reading and less cricks in one’s neck. While Microbiology can be kind of a gross subject, the actual photographs are quite beautiful. Makes the learning a bit more pleasant.

Description

Fully rewritten and updated for the cutting-edge 6th edition, Spencer’s Pathology of the Lung follows in its predecessors’ footsteps as the gold-standard textbook of pulmonary diseases. All recognized diseases of the lungs are discussed and illustrated with extensive, high-quality color images. Each chapter includes practical, clear and concise diagnostic features, including immunohistochemistry, molecular tests and differential diagnoses, while rare entities are discussed and illustrated in detail. This thoroughly reworked edition includes new classification schemes and the latest understanding of the pathophysiology and molecular aspects of a wide range of diseases. Non-neoplastic diseases are presented according to epidemiology, genetics, clinical manifestations, radiographic findings, pathology, cytology, laboratory findings, pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, prognosis and natural history. Neoplasms are discussed according to cell or origin with sections devoted to genetics, molecular findings and clinicopathologic correlations. Written and edited by leading experts in the field, this is an essential resource for practising and trainee pathologists.

Reviews

To be blunt, no currently available atlas, fascicle, or textbook approaches the excellence of this volume as a reference for pulmonary tumors … I have no doubts that great pulmonary pathology textbooks are going to be published in the future. What I honestly doubt is that they will match or surpass the quality of this one.

Not my favorite book, but not written too badly! What my class required so there’s that. Some parts are difficult to understand and the pictures don’t always match up, but overall it’s a decent text.
