If you’re trying to gain that extra 10 points on your shelf for peds, this is the book. I like this b/c compared to case files that gets rambly and takes forever to read, Pre test is bullet points and quick questions and explanations are 1 sentence and very high yield. I did well on this shelf and it was my first rotation b/c using this 1 week before the exam after going through the rotation and having been exposed to everything, this book is great for solidifying that knowledge. Highly recommend this for anyone wanting to get that extra few points on this shelf.

However, if you’re not interested in peds and don’t have a stronger basic background- this may be overwhleming with small random facts to you. Only use this towards the end of your shelf studying.

Description

There is increasing interest in using ultrasound for assessment of pelvic floor disorders such as voiding dysfunction , pelvic organ prolapse and faecal incontinence. Ultrasound can also be a useful imaging modality for urodynamics and pelvic floor physiotherapy. Whilst ultrasound equipment is widely available around the world many clinicians may not have access to structured training in the technique of pelvic floor imaging and interpretation of images in the context of pelvic floor dysfunction. This book aims to provide the reader with the knowledge and skills to start utilising ultrasound imaging in assessment of pelvic floor disorders. The authors comprise the three surgical disciplines (urology, colorectal surgery and gynaecology) who commonly manage pelvic floor problems and have subspecialty expertise in pelvic floor imaging. They have conducted workshops in Australia, Asia, UK and USA and are advocates for clinican-performed ultrasound.

Description

This fully updated and revised second edition address specifically some of the significant advances made in our understanding of the pathophysiology of penile cancer including discussion of the suspected role of the human papilloma virus in penile carcinogenesis. Similarly, the molecular pathways implicated in precancerous and penile cancer will be discussed as these are the present targets of novel therapeutic approaches to this disease. The text details the recent national and international diagnostic and treatment guidelines that have been developed by both the National Comprehensive Cancer Network© and the European Urological Association establishing evidence based standards upon which the care of penile cancer should be based. The text also covers significant advances made in the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to both primary tumors and inguinal nodal metastases resulting from penile cancer such as penile sparing surgery and minimally invasive inguinal lymph node surgery. The text will similarly highlights the improvement in cancer specific outcome in the management of loco-regionally advanced (N2/3) penile cancer managed by upfront systemic chemotherapy followed by consolidative surgery in appropriately selected patients based on recent prospective phase II data. It also covers the role of radiotherapy in the management of penile cancer for both primary tumors and/or at sites of regional or distant metastases. Finally, some of the novel systemic approaches being devised in the management of advanced penile cancer along with some upcoming international trials soon to be opened which likely will re-define the present therapeutic approaches to penile cancer are discussed.

Description

This book presents the percutaneous techniques and technologies most frequently employed in structural interventional cardiology, focusing especially on how to optimize outcomes and minimize risk. Interventional procedures for aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, left atrial appendage closure, patent foramen ovale closure, and closure of interatrial and interventricular defects are clearly presented step by step with the aid of a wealth of images. These descriptions are complemented by a case-based analysis of the various structural pathologies and their complications. Clear guidance is also provided on patient selection, preoperative evaluation, and choice of available devices. The authors are all acknowledged experts with extensive experience in laboratories and surgical units. The book fully reflects the rapid changes in structural interventional cardiology that have occurred during recent years. These advances are in particular due to the introduction of transcatheter aortic valve implantation, which allows cardiac surgeons to achieve excellent outcomes in patients at high surgical risk. Other exciting developments include new technologies that permit better treatment of other structural cardiac pathologies and valid alternatives to medical therapy in particular patient groups.

Description

This is the first textbook devoted entirely to percutaneous renal surgery. The text explains the basic anatomy, instruments, track dilation and creation, kidney access and surgical treatment of all complex stone scenarios. The book is written in simple sections and is extensively illustrated with more than 250 illustrations. All diagrams have been drawn by the author and reproduced by a professional graphic artist. The book describes the basic techniques, then progresses clinically through to more difficult clinical and surgical scenarios. In this way, it is akin to a “cook book” in style, that is easily referenced and readable. As percutaneous renal surgery is a team effort, the book contains descriptors for ward and theatre technicians and nurses, as well as equipment lists. The book also contains a “do it yourself” six-stage percutaneous renal surgery workshop program. This workshop can be performed in any department practising PCNL. Percutaneous Renal Surgery: A Practical Clinical Handbook represents a practical manual, suitable for medical students, nurses and technicians and is a unique manual for all urology trainees and urologists treating renal stone disease worldwide.
