Description

The text is clear and concise. Not only outlining the history and format of the examination and providing some mock examination material for candidates to get a taste of how the examination is carried out, it goes the extra mile by giving helpful advice on performance psychology and even dress code, for examination success. Highly recommended.

Description

Postoperative nausea and vomiting is an increasingly common and distressing problem faced by patients undergoing anesthesia that negatively affects their recovery and wellbeing and can result in significant increases in healthcare costs. Effective treatment strategies and relevant, up-to-date guidance are essential to manage postoperative nausea and vomiting in the perioperative setting. This practical, concise guide to the subject offers information on the history and mechanisms of postoperative nausea and vomiting, assessing and identifying risk factors, providing appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options, and implementing successful management strategies to tackle this issue. As a uniquely comprehensive study of the topic that provides much more detail than a chapter in a general anaesthesia textbook, this is an invaluable resource for anesthetists and physicians managing patients post-surgery.

Description

The original book “Practical Cardiology” was primarily designed as a reference for general practitioners in the fast growing area of cardiology. The book was published in 1999 into a market notorious for not purchasing books. The concept is to be rewritten to access a broader market of clinical medical students, GP registrars in training and cardiac nurses. Market conditions have changed at all levels – undergraduate/trainee and practising. The market has grown at undergraduate level, the trainee curriculum is undergoing significant change and practitioners are responding to new products following changes in healthcare levies. “Examination Cardiology” will use the same problem based approach but will be updated and redesigned. The table of contents is provisionally the same as the original book. Many of the drawings and diagrams which come from Clinical Examination, are vastly improved in their colour versions in CE5. An additional contributor will author a chapter on ECG interpretation. This book will have a supplementary DVD of cardiac procedures. There will be general references and further reading at the end of each chapter.

I bought this book after having a wonderful experience with his other book which is less in depth but still a great reference. This book is so helpful and concise, and this is one of those books I continue referencing. I’ll go through a section, take notes, then months later want to brush up on a topic, and it seems that I’m constantly still learning yet the topic never seems unattainable in understanding. No regrets – I love this book and when it’s falling apart in a year or two, I’ll even consider buying it again. I’m a new PA in cardiology and this book has saved me innumerable times. 🙂

The text is surprisingly easy to read…any surgical pathologist would enjoy the natural flow of information given…they cover almost all neoplasms in the neuraxis and several important inflammatory diseases. In addition to the popular grading systems of diffuse fibrillary astrocytomas, specific variants of astrocytomas are delineated. The responsiveness to chemotherapy of oligodendrogliomas ( well differentiated or anaplastic) and mixed oligoastrocytomas is emphasized. Important mimics of neoplasm, such as multiple sclerosis and radiation necrosis, are discussed separately…The references in each and every chapter are relevant and quite up -to- date…This monograph contains very practical information, is very easy to read and comprehend, and is convenient to use in daily intraoperative consultation and regular sign-out .-Doody’s Health Science Book Review

In surveying the reviews seemed to be primarily guided by whether expanse of currently available neuropathology illustrations were in color (good) or black and white textbooks, however, we came to feel that there was (bad). However, upon further reflection we accepted a place for a book that could combine our career this mandate as a blessing in disguise, allowing the experiences of trying to discern what is known (and reader to focus on differences in morphology, rather knowable) with the perennially proposed question, than tincture, as a guide to correct diagnosis. In fact, “What do we need to know?” Together we tried to one of us (M. e. ) has always been a fan of black and produce a book that would be practical, understand white photography, both in histologic atlases as well able, and to the point (minimizing reading time as in the immortal photographs of artists ranging from during intraoperative consultation).
