Description

This text is constructed to educate clinicians on the general classification and diagnostic approach to soft tissue tumors, such that they feel more empowered to discuss the relevant features of particular cases with their pathology colleagues. Particular consideration is given to diagnostically and prognostically relevant ancillary studies. The first section addresses the basic foundations of soft tissue pathology, including common morphologic patterns, approach to grading, concepts of immunohistochemistry and molecular studies. Following this introductory section, each soft tissue tumor is presented according to its morphologic differentiation. Sections include lipomatous tumors, fibrous lesions, fibrohistiocytic tumors, neural and nerve sheath tumors, and smooth muscle neoplasms. Each entity is presented in a consistent and organized manner, first discussing the clinical presentation and then addressing the gross and microscopic features. Following this, the immunohistochemical and molecular findings are presented The text then briefly discusses prognosis and treatment. Representative photographs of the microscopic appearance will be included in a large format.

The combination of basic science and neuroanatomy linked to guidelines for clinical assessment and management of these complex patients is a distinctive feature of this book. It sets this book apart from textbooks or books on management of specific neurologic emergencies. -Critical Care Medicine

It’s easy to read, use, and understand but I would like it more if it had more pictures and diagrams. I’m more of a visual learner. It’s almost too simple and I’m afraid it’s not enough information. I will be taking both my Abdominal and OB/GYN boards next week and I’ll let you know if I passed and if I felt prepared. I already passed the physics 3 years ago and I didn’t use this book for that so I can’t comment or its usefulness in that category.

Description

Core Principles of Acute Neurology is a series of short volumes that handles major topics not found in sufficient detail elsewhere and provides useful context. Solving Critical Consults provide practical information on how to evaluate complicated neurology consults in the ICU. The diagnosis and management of neurologic complications of acutely ill hospitalized patients remains challenging. The modern intensive care unit is a different place with different patients, and consultants may require a specific expertise in handling complications associated with critical illness. Some of these requests for consultation include not only diagnosis of the neurologic state, but also assistance with management at all levels. Prognostication in devastating situations or when the critical illness has come under control is a common request.

Great to have at work. It sits in my mail box for everyones pleasure reading. It’s handy to have. One of my co-workers had it in her lab coat pocket. She’s one of those old fashioned therapist, even though almost everything can be found on line for references. It’s great for our interns mostly, when they have down time ๐Ÿ˜€

โ€œThe case-based approach this book takes to spinal surgery and avoiding complications makes this a great addition to the literature. โ€ฆ The audience includes spine surgeons and spinal trainees. It meets the needs of its intended audience and adequately covers the subject. The authors are experts based on their education, experience, and work in the field. โ€ฆ As a spine surgeon, I found the book very informative, useful as a quick reference before cases, and helpful in operative planning.โ€ (Sajeel R Khan, Doody’s Book Reviews, May, 2018)

Description

Although there are a number of excellent books dedicated to spinal deformities, this text employs a case-based format which offers the advantage of easy readability. This format will allow the reader to better synthesize the dense information encompassing spinal deformity complications and pearls to avoid them. Example cases highlight the importance of appropriate diagnosis, radiographic assessment, classification, surgical decision making, and complication avoidance. In addition, complication management is emphasized since complications will occur regardless of skill level, experience, or meticulous technique given the complex nature of spinal deformity.
