It helps to have “P53 That cracked the Cancer code” to see a singular thread also but this then opens up on Cancer’s sneakiness and resistance to cure. Try DaVita’s “Death of Cancer” book too. I’m on my 10th cycle of chemotherapy with a colectomy so it’s real for me.

This charming book has a contemporary style which sets it apart from other consultation books. This is a must read for those aiming to pass the CSA exam comfortably. Its charm is in its easy-to-read pages with chapters listed as buzz words that are used in marking schemes for COT and CSA assessments. It consists of two parts: ‘Part 1: Deconstructing the Consultation’ and ‘Part 2: Tools and Techniques for Learning and Improving Consultation Skills,’ with an appendix ‘jargon buster’ at the end. This book was showcased by the recent RCGP Consultation Skills and Reducing Risk Workshop, and with good reason, in my opinion.

The Manual focuses on the fieldside diagnosis and treatment of severe injuries and illnesses that can present at a sports event. It concentrates on basic diagnostic skills and treatment modalities as the sports physician has often limited diagnostic and treatment facilities available. Each chapter concentrates on an illness or anatomical injury and offers a structured diagnostic and therapeutic approach in this difficult pre-hospital environment. The chapters explain what problems are to be expected with specific conditions as well as which treatment plan should be implemented and how to evaluate and reassess those plans.

i have been a critical care nurse for 13 yrs, but just recently made a move to the neuro ICU. I was looking for a clear and concise neurocritical care book to enhance my learning. This book is wonderful! Each chapter is on a particular topic in neuro critical care and begins with a patient scenario. It then walks you throug risk factors for that topic, initial treatment, treatment course, complications and management, and prognisis. Each section of the chapter will continue to include your original patient scenario showing you clinically what the different complications look like. It then goes through the treatment measures for that complication. It also includes data from recent studies and trials. Some examples chapters include, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, stroke, brain tumors, seizures, brain trauma, etc. It’s a book written by physicians, but is easily understandable and very useful for nurses. This book has been a godsend in my practice. I highly recommend it for any clinician in the field of neuroscience critical care.

Description

Out of the 20 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) prioritized by the World Health Organization, the leishmaniases rank in the top 3 among those caused by protozoa. The purpose of this book is to provide the reader with a comprehensive and updated overview of all the aspects of leishmaniasis with a worldwide perspective – authors of many chapters include eminent scientists from both the Old and New Worlds. The chapters cover a wide range of topics, classically organized into biology and epidemiology, followed by clinical and control aspects. Following an introductory chapter intended to take the reader into the leishmaniasis complexity, a chapter on Leishmania taxonomy reports on the most recent advances in molecular and phylogenetic data. Parasite biology is then described in detail by means of two separate chapters devoted to phlebotomine vectors and reservoir hosts, respectively. The medical part of the book begins with a chapter on basic immunology and immunopathology associated with Leishmania infection, followed by a classical chapter on clinical aspects of different disease entities. The complexity of disease case management is presented by means of 3 chapters, respectively on diagnosis, treatment of visceral forms and treatment of tegumentary forms. Finally, the last chapter deals with the available approaches to control leishmaniasis and related public health issues.

“The essays range from antiquity to today’s bariatric, cosmetic and minimal access surgery, and are widely researched, clearly written and authoritative, backed up by extensive bibliographies. This is an important contribution to the subject of surgical history. It is not light reading, but it will be a valuable source book to anyone wishing to research in depth into any of its specialist topics.” (Harold Ellis, British Journal of Hospital Medicine, Vol. 79 (3), March, 2018)
