Very well written and excellent historical info but limited details and rather expensive for modest content. References adequate but already outdated by time of publication. Lacks scientific rigor but nice descriptive text.

Description

Ultrasound imaging techniques are an indispensable complement to physical examination, which is often frustrating, if not useless, for diagnosing kidney problems. The application of ultrasound techniques in clinical routine helps clinicians to rule out, at first glance, some serious pathological conditions and to concentrate on the accurate diagnosis of the patient. Moreover, sonography can extend the spectrum of diagnostic criteria in acute kidney diseases. It makes it possible to determine morphological parameters without potentially toxic contrast media while exploring functional aspects with contrast enhanced or Doppler ultrasound techniques.

Description

The most frequently asked questions that confront the fetal medicine trainee/expert on a daily basis are β€œIs the finding real or merely an artifact?” and β€œIs the diagnosis correct?”. However, to be able to find the description of an abnormal ultrasound finding in a textbook, one generally has to search by the definite diagnosis, which has not been done as yet.

Description

This book addresses the wide range of issues that face the program leader – from how to choose a site and how to negotiate for equipment, to how to determine staffing requirements and how to anticipate and defuse possible turf issues with other programs and services in the hospital or healthcare facility. The early chapters of this book focus on the leadership of your program whether in your department or institution. The second section centers on education at all levels recognizing that smaller machines have made ultrasound available for medical students to advanced practitioners. The third section provides detailed logistics on equipment, maintenance, and safety. The fourth section focuses on a quality improvement program and includes a chapter on the workflow process. For those with limited budgets we also offer a section on practical operating and educational solutions. The fifth section offers insight into hospital level credentialing, quality assurance, national politics, and recent issues with accreditation. This is followed by reimbursement and coding. The last section covers topics in specialized communities. Chapters focus on ultrasound in global health, emergency medical services, pediatrics, critical care, community and office based practices. Multiple US working documents including checklists, graphs, spreadsheets, tables, and policy appendices are included.

Description

Ultrasound guidance of liver surgery is a very sophisticated approach that permits the performance of otherwise unfeasible operations, discloses the true extent of tumors, increases the indications for hepatectomy, and renders surgery safer. Despite this, it has remained relatively neglected in the literature over the past two decades, during which time much progress has been achieved.

Great book. For some reason my edition came in Italian but I read Latin so it works. Great essay written, clear ergonomic and most diagrams easily understood. Liked the inside cover picture of Hillary Clinton with a chop stick up both parts of her nose while balancing two more in each ear. Do t know how it got there but it was a little comic relief.
