A good introduction to cardio. Found two errors but perhaps that’s to be expected from any book.

Description

Safe and effective prescribing is a cornerstone of proper patient care. There has in recent years been a significant increase in the numbers of healthcare professionals able to prescribe; however, sources of drug information tend to focus on only one area of prescribing. The Oxford Handbook of Practical Drug Therapy links practical information about how to use medicines with concise details about the pharmacology of a drug, and the principles of clinical pharmacology that govern its action.

This book covers the essentials of the pathology. While in no way a complete text on pathology this book sorts the wheat from the chaff and gives you all the facts you need in a simple format that doesn’t involve double negatives or a degree in Latin. It’s easy to use and great for refreshing your memory or revising, because it is written by students for students. One of my favourite features is the multiple choice questions in the back, which you can use to test your knowledge and understanding. So it’s a nice and handy book to help you study for an exam, but it’s not a complete textbook so if you are looking for that look further.

Description

Designed to make learning more interesting and clinically meaningful, this new resource matches radiologic images―including advanced reconstructions―to the exquisite artwork of master medical illustrator Frank H. Netter, MD. In contrast to all other anatomic/radiologic atlases available, Netter’s Concise Radiologic Anatomy begins with the anatomy and matches radiologic images to the anatomic images that are indelibly etched in the minds of those who refer to Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy on a daily basis. Concise text enables you to quickly and conveniently access the key anatomic and radiologic knowledge associated with the images. Organized and color-coded in the same manner as Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy, it’s a perfect companion guide to the Atlas―and a perfect guide for understanding the clinical context of normal anatomy.

Description

Determining the biological bases for behavior, and the extent to which we can observe and explain their neural underpinnings, requires a bold, broadly defined research methodology. The interdisciplinary entries in this handbook are organized around the principle of “molecular psychology,” which unites cutting-edge research from such wide-ranging disciplines as clinical neuroscience and genetics, psychology, behavioral neuroscience, and neuroethology.

This book is very concise, but also pretty comprehensive. It manages to cover almost everything you’ll need to know for psychiatry finals, despite being so slim. Amazingly, it’s actually also really good at explaining concepts so the reader can understand them properly. This is probably the only psychiatry textbook you will need for medical school and psych finals, but of course you should always check the latest BNF for up to date info on treatments.

Reviews

Great book for rapid review of anatomy (one can go through the entire book within a week or even less), has a decent balance of diagrams (identify the structure tasks), and theoretical questions. Overall it is based on Socratic method of teaching / recall through asking questions. This might be a bit difficult / unusual for some people, but in my case it helps direct the review very well. Very good selection of material, very readable, with numerous clinical correlations (Dr. Blackbourne one of the authors of this books is also the author of Surgical Recall of the same book series). Contains some typos, but not too bad in that sense, and not affecting the meaning / correct answers in most cases. The book is a bit old, i.e. new edition did not come out in awhile, but it is a good source for review of anatomy. I never used it for boards, only for the review before TAing anatomy, and before the return to clerkships after years in the lab, so I cannot comment on its usefulness for the boards, but it is a great book otherwise.
