I had one undergraduate course in stochastic modeling and another in data mining. Basically, anyone with a course or two in statistics for non-math majors can directly apply what they learned to bio-medicine with the help of this book. Although ostensibly aimed at practicing physicians, as a healthcare IT person, I found this book helpful. I use it as if I were using a recipe book.

Reviews from Amazon users, collected at the time the book is getting published on UniedVRG. It can be related to shiping or paper quality instead of the book content:

⭐ I found these questions helpful in studying for my final med exams. The questions covered the specialties i needed to learn. The topics i felt were a little different to what is covered in other texts so it was a good practice to break away from the standard questions.Compared to other texts, the answers are not very detailed and hence i often had to look up other texts for more information rather than being all in the one book. I guess this was a compromise for the ‘pocket’ size, but personally I mostly used it at home and would have preferred more detail.Worthwhile if you have covered the other ‘main’ MCQ texts and looking for something a little different

⭐ This book was probably the best in terms of layout and classifying the difficulty of questions. It made it clear what knowledge was a must and what was at the higher end of achieving top grades.

⭐ all okay thanks.

⭐ Necessity for PLAB 1 exam. They need to update the questions as EMQs have been stopped from November 2012.

⭐ good book

⭐ It helps me to remember and there are references to the clinical specialty book that guides me to the page and information to read through. This book is recommended

⭐ I liked the book. Didn’t use it as much as I liked but was pitched at the right level. Some questions a little obvious. Good answers for descriptions. But definitely have a look around, as I feel other books may be just as good.

Description

Diagnostic Imaging: Oral and Maxillofacial is the newest title in the popular Diagnostic Imaging series by Amirsys. This book is written primarily for dentists who currently use or plan to use CT or CBCT technology in their practices. It can also benefit radiologists interested in the head and neck region who would like a dentist’s perspective. The authors are a large team of renowned oral and maxillofacial dentists and radiologists. Unlike many head and neck radiology books, this volume uses dental-specific nomenclature and anatomy descriptions. It offers a comprehensive review of the oral and maxillofacial complex and reviews the imaging of its common pathologies. It includes a complete section on differential diagnoses that offers an intuitive and simplified method of reviewing pathology according to its radiographic appearance. Featuring over 1,000 images, this volume has a unique focus on three-dimensional imaging rather than intraoral and extraoral plain film radiography. This approach provides the practitioner with a quick and easy reference to the radiographic appearance of the normal as well as abnormal oral and maxillofacial complex. The book includes three main sections: 1) imaging anatomy, which covers normal dental anatomy and nomenclature as well as radiographic anatomy of the oral and maxillofacial complex, 2) diagnostic imaging, which reviews the radiographic appearance of pathology that affects the oral region, and 3) a list of differential diagnoses, which offers a unique and simplified method of categorizing pathology according to radiographic appearance. Like all Amirsys radiology titles, the book also features easy-to-read bulleted text, detailed radiographic images, and superb medical illustrations.

Description

Modern medicine is highly complex and investigations are a key part of the diagnostic process. With major advances in technology there are thousands of clinical and laboratory tests available. This book provides a patient-oriented approach to investigation. The first chapter describes key symptoms and signs along with tests that may be of value in reaching a diagnosis. The remainder of the book is specialty-centred and provides a comprehensive review of all available tests within a given subject. The aim is of the book is to provide a more rational method of investigation and prevent over-investigation which is expensive for the hospital and unpleasant for the patient. It emphasises which tests are of value, when tests are not likely to be helpful, along with pitfalls in the interpretation of results. This new editoon has been updated throughout to incorporate current investigations and management of disease. Chapters on rheumatology, radiology, and renal medicine have been extensively revised. With contributions from active clinicians who are engaged in medical practice, the book will be of value to senior medical students facing finals examinations, and junior doctors who are responsible for ordering tests on their patients.
