Description

Cardiac disease is one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality. Catastrophic outcomes typically encountered are due to gaps in knowledge and communication between health care providers. There is a great need for a standardized approach for care of this very high-risk group of pregnant women.

Description

This book covers all aspects of imaging diagnosis of shoulder disorders from a clinical perspective. After discussion of relevant imaging techniques, a wide spectrum of disorders is addressed in a series of dedicated chapters on rotator cuff injuries and impingement syndromes, biceps tendon and rotator interval pathology, glenohumeral instability, SLAP tears and microinstability, shoulder girdle fractures, shoulder arthropathies, tumors and tumor-like conditions, and entrapment neuropathies. Separate consideration is also given to the pediatric shoulder and to preoperative planning, postoperative imaging, and surgical techniques in patients undergoing shoulder arthroplasty. The unique anatomy and range of motion of the shoulder joint can present a diagnostic challenge. Characterization of soft tissue injuries and radiographically occult osseous pathology is often facilitated by the use of advanced imaging techniques, including MRI, CT, and ultrasound. Readers will find this excellently illustrated book to be an invaluable aid to diagnostic interpretation when employing these techniques.

This book can be recommended for the scope of presentations ranging from bedside procedures to organization for mass casualty situations. It is well written, and the reference lists and index are quite helpful. As noted, there may be some regional variation in prehospital practice. Nonetheless, this is an excellent overview of the pertinent issues.

Description

Medicine is becoming increasingly reliant on diagnostic, prognostic and screening tests for the successful treatment of patients. With new tests being developed all the time, a more informed understanding of the benefits and drawbacks of these tests is crucial. Providing readers with the tools needed to evaluate and interpret these tests, numerous real-world examples demonstrate the practical application and relevance of the material. The mathematics involved are rigorously explained using simple and informative language. Topics covered include the diagnostic process, reliability and accuracy of tests, and quantifying treatment benefits using randomized trials, amongst others. Engaging illustrations act as visual representations of the concepts discussed in the book, complementing the textual explanation. Based on decades of experience teaching in a clinical research training program, this fully updated second edition is an essential guide for anyone looking to select, develop or market medical tests.

FA is basically the bible for med students, so here I am, worshipping at the altar of our lord and savior McGraw Hill. It’s concise and to the point which makes studying easier and more efficient. I use it with Picmonic since they have a page by page follow along feature that lets me look up any mnemonics they have for the topics on a given page/chapter. Then I review everything with UWorld.

I do wish I bought this sooner to help identify high yield info earlier on in school. Long story short, First Aid is a must-have for anyone preparing for Step 1!

This book is an excellent primer for physician anesthesiologists who would like to ascend to perioperative leadership roles. While the contents of this book are likely to be a review for experts or established leaders, it is useful for resident trainees, those stepping into leadership positions, or even anesthesiologists who are not in leadership but who would like to better understand the mechanics of operating room management.’ Nicole Higgins and Paloma Toledo, Anesthesia & Analgesia

“A very interesting compilation of the translational components of the science and technology of nanomedicine and its applications to human health. . . . With a wonderful introduction, the very first chapter of this book looks at issues of drug delivery and drug targets as applied to respiratory diseases, neurological disorders, and gastric and intestinal disorders. Skin and treatment of cancer and ocular diseases, angiogenesis, cardiovascular disorder, and hypertension are also covered. Applications of nanomedicine to address issues of bacterial and parasitic disease will further make this book a valuable one. What makes this book very user-friendly is the language and the treatment of the technical content, while at the same time not compromising on the recent advancements, opportunities, and the challenges. . . . Of immense use not only to the basic scientists but also physician-scientists and clinicians who may like to get a better understanding of nano-based therapies. . . . A wonderful treatise based on expert experience with a clear bearing on applications in human health.”

– From the Foreword by Dr. Seyed Ehtesham Hasnain, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard (Deemed to be University); Professor & Head, Jamia Hamdard-Institute of Molecular Medicine, Hamdard Nagar, New Delhi, India

“Covers a well-engrossed concept on nanoparticles for treatment of life-threatening diseases. The book encompasses application of nanomedicines in drug targeting, which has been the focal point in research for the last two decades. The superlative collection on the application of nanomedicine in cancer chemotherapeutics definitely throws light on the complex mechanism of cancer treatment and ways to overcome it. The concept of nanomedicine in radiotherapy also relays the recent findings on the applications of radiopharmaceuticals in cancer therapy. I would say with a definite certitude that the book will prove to be an exemplary reference for academicians and scientists working in the field of nanomedicine.”
