The book opens with a section on initial patient assessment and consultation, moves on to such topics as surgery of the septum, with separate sections on the nuances of functional nasal surgery and revision rhinoplasty, and concludes with a section on avoiding and managing surgical complications. Each chapter is written by an expert on a specific topic and presents tried-and-true rhinoplasty techniques that can be readily implemented by facial plastic surgeons.

Reviews

Review “The authors intend the book for endocrine surgeons, including otolaryngologists and general surgeons and fellows in endocrine surgery and head and neck surgery, as well as residents in otolaryngology and general surgery. Given the focused topic, those already experienced with thyroid surgery but interested in mastering this thyroid surgical endeavor will find it the most appealing. Ò€¦ The biggest strength of this book is the depth in which it addresses the topics.” (John Cramer, Doody’s Book Reviews, September, 2016)

A new classification system for recurrent laryngeal nerve anatomy is proposed. Intraoperative neural monitoring of the nerves is also covered in detail along with new horizons and encompass a practical approach to neural monitoring right from set up, actual monitoring and clinical relevance and usefulness of the monitoring data in making surgical decisions. The current status of the field is summarized and placed in context with optimal surgical management of these nerves. Description

Vascular and Endovascular Surgery meets the needs of surgeons in higher training and practising consultants for a contemporary and evidence-based account of this sub-specialty that is relevant to their general surgical practice. It is a practical reference source incorporating the most current information on recent developments, management issues and operative procedures. The text is thoroughly referenced and supported by evidence-based recommendations wherever possible, distinguishing between strong evidence to support a conclusion, and evidence suggesting that a recommendation can be reached on the balance of probabilities.

Reviews

The expanded cardiac imaging section is money. Also the expanded IR section is welcome addition to this new edition. Oh, and the peds section has a few extra chapters too. It has a few typos here and there but the message from each chapter comes across well. The only thing I’m puzzled about is why the authors did away GU/Renal nucs section. The previous edition had a good chapter on said topic. Especially when it comes to stuff related to renal function curves. Overall a good reference book. BTW, word of the wise: Buy the one that comes divided in volumes. It’s easier to carry than the hardcover copy.

Description

Dedicated to the critical management of acutely ill adults with congenital heart disease, this comprehensive book discusses the many challenges faced in the management of these patients, who require intensive inter- and trans-disciplinary care. It provides the first universal review of the practical management of patients with these complex conditions, who survive into adulthood with congenital cardiac malformations and are often affected by other morbidities. For this reason, it reflects a consistent interaction and collaboration between several disciplines: pediatric and adult cardiology, cardiac surgery, pediatric and adult cardiac intensive care, anesthesia, intensive care nursing, nutrition, psychology and many other specialties. It offers concise and pragmatic recommendations, and provides basic and advanced concepts that allow caregivers to anticipate, prevent and effectively treat such pathologies. The book also includes chapters focusing on cardiac-database and risk-factor assessment, organizational and operational topics, advanced mechanical circulatory assistance and pharmacology.

Reviews

…this book would indeed provide [clinical practice and those doing examination preparation] a ready fast revision when required… or for patient management in acute clinical settings. The style and size for the handbook is truly fit for its urgent use. – Rakesh Garg, The Open Anaesthesiology
