NP student here. RN for over 12 years. I don’t know everything but I did not find this book to be a thorough reference book. It has many diagnoses and disease processes. The information os quick and to the point. You will have to have a diagnosis in mind already. It doesn’t list differentials near your diagnosis. It lists differential in the front of the chanpter. (still trying to learn to utilize the infomation quickly in clinical.) Not working. It has full color derm photos (not a huge selection). The photos are smaller but, convey the information clearly. It does not include treatment. At All. It has a minimal amount of differentials. I’m not looking for zebras, but if you have any nursing experience or are past your pathophysiology class in NP school you will be able to come up with most of the differentials they list on your own. I was hoping for more help as i hone my SOAP note skills. This book disappointed me. I have a larger heavier book I was hoping not to have to reference. But I will continue to use that other one. No labs or imaging to learn from. I will speak to the quality of the paper and printing. It is colorful. The paper is a proper heaviness to be durable. So far still looking to find a way to attach my smart phone to me. I’d rather drop my phone, break it and buy an overpriced smart phone than purchase this book.

Description

Whole Body Vibrations: Physical and Biological Effects on the Human Body allows an understanding about the qualities and disadvantages of vibration exposure on the human body with a biomechanical and medical perspective. It offers a comprehensive range of principles, methods, techniques and tools to provide the reader with a clear knowledge of the impact of vibration on human tissues and physiological processes. The text considers physical, mechanical and biomechanical aspects and it is illustrated by key application domains such as sports and medicine. Consisting of 11 chapters in total, the first three chapters provide useful tools for measuring, generating, simulating and processing vibration signals. The following seven chapters are applications in different fields of expertise, from performance to health, with localized or global effects. Since unfortunately there are undesirable effects from the exposure to mechanical vibrations, a final chapter is dedicated to this issue. Engineers, researchers and students from biomedical engineering and health sciences, as well as industrial professionals can profit from this compendium of knowledge about mechanical vibration applied to the human body.

Textbook of Palliative Care is a comprehensive, clinically relevant and state-of-the art book, aimed at advancing palliative care as a science, a clinical practice and as an art. Palliative care has been part of healthcare for over fifty years but we still find ourselves having to explain its nature and practice to colleagues and to the public in general. Healthcare education and training has been slow to recognize the vital importance of ensuring that all practitioners have a good understanding of what is involved in the care of people with serious or advanced illnesses and their families. However, the science of palliative care is advancing and our understanding concerning many aspects of palliative care is developing rapidly. The book is divided into separate sections for ease of use. Over 100 chapters written by experts in their given fields provide up-to-date information on a wide range of topics of relevance to those providing care towards the end of life no matter what the disease may be. We present a global perspective on contemporary and classic issues in palliative care with authors from a wide range of disciplines involved in this essential aspect of care. The Textbook includes sections addressing aspects such as symptom management and care provision, organization of care in different settings, care in specific disease groups, palliative care emergencies, ethics, public health approaches and research in palliative care. This Textbook will be of value to practitioners in all disciplines and professions where the care of people approaching death is important, specialists as well as non-specialists, in any setting where people with serious advanced illnesses are residing. It is also an important resource for researchers, policy-and decision-makers at national or regional levels. Neither the science nor the art of palliative care will stand still so we aim to keep this Textbook updated as the authors find new evidence and approaches to care. About the Author Roderick Duncan MacLeod is a Palliative Medicine Specialist at Harbour Hospice in Auckland, New Zealand, and Consultant to HammondCare in Sydney where he is also Honorary Professor in the University of Sydney, School of Medicine. I own the previous of version of this book and there have been some major updates including more details, pictures and an improved CCS section. However, no book, either this one or MTB will suffice for a complete review for step 3. Since step 3 is a volatile exam and can contain pretty much anything from steps 1-3, FA3 will not be enough even if it is paired with a solid qbank. My major gripe with this book just like its predecessor is that entire book is poorly organized by, which I mean for example if you are reading about Asthma and you near the end of that section and think you are done reading about that topic and now you start reading about COPD, you would be wrong because right after starting the COPD section a chart for managing chronic asthma would appear. This poor organization is repeated constantly throughout the entire book. So if the reader does not read the title of the chart or graph carefully they may associate it with the topic they are currently reading, but instead it correlates with the previous one. I know it seems like nitpicking, but it is not that difficult to add any pertinent charts, etc, to the end of the topic before starting a new one. I was really hoping the authors would have corrected this format for the new version, but unfortunately they have not. The book is still a solid read and worth buying, but not a complete review.
